Evgeny Lagunov nabs Men’s 100m freestyle title: Final Day – Russian Cup 2011
Evgeny Lagunov captured the gold medal in the Men’s 100m freestyle event on the final day of the 2011 Russian Cup in Ruzi, Russia, on Monday, July 4. Lagunov completed his distance in a winning time of 49.33 seconds.
Meanwhile, Vitaly Syrnikov settled second in 49.57 seconds and Vladimir Morozov earned third place honours in 49.66 seconds.
After securing the gold medal in the Men’s 100m freestyle meet, Lagunov was indeed excited and pleased with his individual performance in the Russian Cup. He asserted that it was really a close race, but thanks to his good start he won the match against
his countryman with a tiny margin of 0.24 seconds.
Lagunov is a well-known swimmer of Russia, who won the gold medal in the Men’s 4x200m freestyle event at the 2010 World Championships, in Dubai. He captured the golden crown in the 4x100m freestyle event at the 2010 European Championships in Budapest. Moreover,
he also snared gold in the 100m freestyle meet at the 2005 Summer Universiade in Izmir.
At the moment, Evgeny Lagunov has been training hard in competitive swimming in Russia for the upcoming London Olympic event, in 2012.
In another meet, Anton Butymov took home the Men's 100m back-stroke crown with a victorious time of 55.04 seconds. Artem Dubovskoy rounded out the top two in 55.42 seconds, while Sergei Makov earned third place honours in 56.02 seconds.
Earlier, Svetlana Fedulova snared the Women’s 50m freestyle meet with a time of 25.66 seconds, whereas, Veronika Popova retained the Women’s 200m freestyle crown after touching the finishing wall in 1 minute and 59.16 seconds.
Additionally, Grigory Falko won the Men’s 200m breast-stroke race with a winning time of 2 minutes and 11.68 seconds. To add to his credentials, he moved into 19th place in the international swimming rankings of the current year.
Mariya Gromov topped the Women’s 200m back-stroke meet with a time of 2 minutes and 12.53 seconds, whereas, Darya Deeva snatched the Women’s 100m breast-stroke title in a winning time of 1 minute and 09.47 seconds.
