Evgeny Lovchev believes Rubin Kazan made mistakes against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-Lyonnais-c40130: UEFA Champions League
Former Spartak Moscow defender, Evgeny Lovchev, has lamented Rubin Kazan’s performance against Ligue 1 champions, Olympique Lyonnais, in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League.
The Tatary scored an early goal but failed to maintain their lead, conceding two goals in the first half and one in the second. Lovchev bemoaned the Volzhane team spirit after failing to find the net again as his team missed a couple of opportunities in
front of the opponent’s goal at Stade de Gerland.
Lovchev insisted that Rubin were defeated because the Tatary head coach, Kurban Berdyev, chose a terrible style of play against Les Gones.
“It's great that there are European Cups and we can look at ourselves from outside, to estimate the strength of our teams in games against tough rivals. Lyon taught us a lesson of the modern European football by stretching Kazan defence repeatedly.” The
former Dynamo Moscow player was quoted as saying.
Rubin managed to win the fourth round of the Champions League against Dynamo Kyiv by scoring four goals against Ukrainian Premier League champions. Lovchev highlighted that he did not see the team spirit he saw against the Dinamiki.
“Lyon showed different football and skill level as compared to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Russia-c2991. Their approach to the game was certainly different, they did everything quickly. The players wanted to score eagerly.” The 62-year-old concluded.
The French Ligue 1 started earlier this month but Rubin are playing for the past six months, since the start of the Russian Premier League season 2011/12. The former Lokomotiv Chelyabinsk manager explained that Lyon were the better side against the Volzhane
in spite of less match practice playing in the French league.
The Soviet Top League winner insisted that the Russian football needs a bit of attention in order to succeed in Europe. Lovchev highlighted that Russian Clubs play slower football as compared to the European clubs.
The Russian manager believes that it’s impossible to overcome the two-goal deficit and highlighted that Lyon are going to deep defensively in the return leg at Tsentralnyi Stadion.
