The Soviet Cup winner has urged Zenit St. Petersburg to win the upcoming Russian Premier League tie and commented on Valery Karpin’s possible resignation
In the upcoming round of Russian Premier League action, Zenit St. Petersburg will take on Anzhi Makhachkala at Makhachkala stadium.
The last time these two teams met in a league game, the Dagestani side managed to claim a vital point against the St. Petersburg club after a goalless stalemate at Petrovsky stadium.
Given the fact that Zenit have defeated the ambitious Russian outfit twice this season, the Meshki are firm favourites to win the respective encounter against Guus Hiddink’s men this Sunday.
Well known Russian expert, Evgeny Lovchev, has motivated Zenit to win the upcoming tie against Anzhi despite retaining the league title already this season. He conceded that the Russian champions need to turn the tables after losing
against Spartak Moscow 3-2 at their home.
“I appeal to Zenit to win the last match of the season against Anzhi. The race for the second-spot is heating up and the Meshki needs to be fair with their counterparts after putting in a lot of effort in the match. I request Luciano
Spalletti to field a strong team.” The Soviet Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Media reports in Russia suggest that Spartak are set to hire former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Valencia-c40863 coach, Unai Emery, after a below par performance from the Russian giants during the third league round. However, Lovchev believes that the Red-whites
do not need a new head coach.
“I know Emery has had a successful career in Spain but he has not coached any top club during his managerial career. Emery, if selected, can build Spartak’s game but I don’t believe that he will lead the Russian outfit to the next
level.” Lovchev concluded.
Commenting on Valery Karpin’s possible resignation from Spartak Moscow, Lovchev conceded that Karpin, who stepped up to take managerial charge at Luzhniki stadium back in 2009, has put in lot of hard work with the team.
The 63-year-old expert insisted that the Moscow-based club has a decent coach, and they need to stick with him.
