Evian Masters 2012: French Karine Icher happy to play in her country
French Karine Icher is going to start her bid for a first LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) triumph at the Evian Masters 2012, set to start from July 26-29, at the Evian-les-Bains, France, with a
tough field loaded with most of the top-ranked contenders.
Icher has been associated with the LPGA since 2003, but is still seeking to record her maiden victory on the Tour. The coming Evian Masters, which is being staged in her own country, is going to give her plenty
of opportunities to end her victory drought.
Although struggling on the LPGA, Icher has somehow proved her mettle on the LET (Ladies European Tour), as she has won six titles so far.
Analysts said that the French star is lucky that she is going to enjoy plenty of support from the crowd when she sets foot on the course this Thursday. They said that Icher might have been desperately seeking
to win a victory on the LPGA Tour, but a good finish at Evian Masters 2012 cannot be ruled out, given the expected moral support from the French spectators.
In order to put her name in a noticeable position on the leaderboard, Icher will have to outsmart players like current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis, Maria Hjorth, Cristie Kerr, Ai Miyazato, Suzann
Pettersen, Anna Nordqvist, Sophie Gustafson, Lexi Thompson, Christel Boeljon, Laura Davies, Melissa Reid, Na Yeon Choi, Paula Creamer, Karen Stupples and Azahara Munoz.
Speaking to the media about what it feels to be in a roster awash with fearsome players, Icher said that she is just going to keep her cool and avoid making too many careless mistakes on the course. She said
that since the event is taking place in her country, she will definitely feel confident, and this is the most important thing for her right now.
“It's very exciting to be back in France obviously. It's been two years, so I'm very happy to be here to see my friends, family, everybody. It's a beautiful course,” the 33-year-old shared. “There are little
changes. Really good greens. I think I played maybe 10 Evian Masters, and it's really the first year where the green are so good”.
