Evian Masters 2012: Karrie Webb fires overall 273 to finish tied for second position
Australian Karrie Webb displayed a decent performance in the Evian Masters 2012, as she shot an overall 273 to finish tied for the second position along with American Stacy Lewis.
Webb was not so thrilled about the final results, but had a sigh of relief at the end of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) tournament as she was able to finish inside the top five.
The Aussie star kicked off the tournament at Evian-les-Bains in an amazing style, as she posted a 70 in the opening round. Webb was confident that she would remain in contention if she clung to her plans for
the tournament.
In the concluding round, she battled players like Lewis and South Korean Inbee Park, who registered an overall 271 to rack up her second LPGA title.
Although the roster of the Evian Masters 2012 was full of big names like current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer and Suzann Pettersen of Norway, Webb did not let her nerve rattle her at all and she
played a natural game in the four rounds.
Posting a 67 in the final round helped the Aussie golfer came close to Lewis, who dominated the leaderboard in the first two rounds.
Webb’s score in the last three rounds was nothing short of amazing, as it gave her the much-needed chance to consolidate her position on the leaderboard. She registered a 69 and 67 in the second and third round
respectively.
Speaking to the media about her performance in France, the 37-year-old LPGA titan said that she is not unhappy with the way she played each round, but she realises she could have done a lot better to stay ahead
of her nearest rivals.
“I shot 67 today, so I can't really complain.  I think Inbee shot 66.  She played really, really well. Obviously you want to win, but just to be in contention and perform well under pressure, just to feel what
it's like to be in contention, is good. I gave myself the chance,” the veteran star said.
“I didn't have a very comfortable carry out.  I had my 5-wood.  I knew that Inbee had gotten 16, so I knew had to go for it and try and make there”.
