Evian Masters 2012: Mika Miyazato cards 69 in second round
Japanese Mika Miyazato amazed the spectators in the second round of the Evian Masters 2012 as she carded a 69 to take the fifth position on the leaderboard.
Miyazato may not be as strong a player as Yani Tseng or American Stacy Lewis, but she certainly knows how to rattle rivals on the course. The Japanese star, who exhibited a near-flawless performance in the
first round as she scored a 67, fought a nerve-jangling battle against players like South Korean Inbee Park and Paula Creamer.
Miyazato started her second round with plenty of confidence as she avoided shooting any bogey. Although the weather conditions were a little unfavourable on Friday as hot winds whipped through the course intermittently,
the rising star managed to make balanced strokes.
She parred all the holes on the front nine. However, on the back nine, she managed to record three birdies.
Analysts said that the next rounds can be more difficult, as the weather conditions are not the only factor troubling players, but players will also be putting their best foot forward to move up on the leaderboard.
Miyazato is one of the Asian contenders in the Evian Masters 2012 roster who are likely to hold their ground till the final moments of the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) event.
American Stacy Lewis displayed a solid performance in the second round as well and maintained her number one position. Lewis registered a 69 on Friday, bringing her overall score to 132.
Another notable performance that grabbed attention was recorded by South Korean Ilhee Lee. Lee carded a 67 in the second round to stay strong on the second position.
Asian players, who have dominated the Evian Masters for its last three editions, appear bent on making another breakthrough this season at Evian-les-Bains. No matter how fired up Asians may be, the current
results of the tournaments reflect there is going to be a pitched battle in the third and fourth round.
Americans have been struggling to regain their lost glory in the prestigious tournament, but latest performance from Stacy Lewis and Paula Creamer signals improvement.
Miyazato spoke to the media and shared that the only thing that helped her display a better game on Friday was patience.
