Evian Masters 2012: South Korean Ilhee Lee fires 67 in second round to stay firm on second position
South Korean Ilhee Lee is proving tougher than her rivals had anticipated before kicking off the Evian Masters 2012, as she maintained her second position on the leaderboard after posting a 67 in the second round.
Lee was happy to see her name just one place below the second-round leader Stacy Lewis, who also kept her momentum going after grabbing an early lead in the opening round.
The Evian Masters 2012 is being played at Evian-les-Bains, France, with a roster packed with almost all the top-ranked LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) titans.
Prominent names displaying their skills at Evian-les-Bains include Paula Creamer, current world number one Yani Tseng, Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Suzann Pettersen, Brittany Lincicome, Karrie Webb, Laura Davies, Ai Miyazato, Na Yeon Choi, Mika Miyazato and Maria Hjorth.
Lee, who was not regarded as the hot favourite contender for the Evian Masters 2012, has beaten the odds so far, and she appears eager to keep the momentum going in the next two rounds as well.
Another star performer at the ongoing LPGA tournament is American Paula Creamer, who is standing tied for the third position as she registered a 67 in the second round. Creamer’s overall score is 135 — just three strokes behind the current leader.
Sharing her thoughts at the end of the second round, Lee said that she did not think she would be able to put up a tough fight and score well enough to stay ahead of her rivals.
She said that she is pretty happy with her current performance, and will try to keep the momentum going in the third and fourth round as well. When asked whether she made some changes to her strategy for the tournament in the second round, the South Korean star said that she is playing with same plan that helped her perform well in the opening round, and she is satisfied with that.
On the other hand, Stacy Lewis said that she might have managed to maintain her lead in the second round, but her performance was not as good as it was on Thursday. However, she added that she is happy to be on top of the leaderboard.
“It wasn't the best, but I made two birdies late and fought through it.  Pretty happy today,” Lewis said.
