Evian Masters 2012: Suzann Pettersen cards 69 to tie for 8th position in first round
Norwegian Suzann Pettersen got off to decent start at the Evian Masters 2012 as she tied for the eight spot on the leaderboard after she carded a 69 in the opening round.
The tournament is being played at Evian-les-Bains, France, and is featuring a roster loaded with stars like Stacy Lewis, current world number one Yani Tseng, Na Yeon Choi, Ai Miyazato, Mika Miyazato, Jiyai
Shin, Paula Creamer, Lexi Thompson, Azahara Munoz, Cristie Kerr, Shanshan Feng, I.K. Kim, Brittany Lincicome and Hee Young park.
Pettersen, who has been struggling to boost her position in the Women’s World Golf Rankings since she dropped to the sixth spot, looked completely fired up and played a natural game.
With the hot weather making it hard for players to do their best in the opening round of the LPGA (Ladies professional Golf Association) event, Suzann gave a tough time to her rivals and capitalised on the
support given by the French crowd.
The Norwegian star parred the first two holes and shot her first birdie on the par-4 3rd hole. She drained two back-to-back birdies on the 7th and 8th hole. On the back nine,
the LPGA giant faltered a little, as she shot one birdie and one bogey.
Speaking to the media about her performance, Pettersen said that she is extremely happy after making a good start, but will have to put her best foot forward in the next three rounds to do something amazing.
She added that her game was more perfect than ever before, as her putting has improved greatly in the past few weeks. The LPGA star has been working hard on her swing and putting on the practice range, and
now she is back to her old form.
“It's been two weeks with barely touching a golf club so it was so nice to get a round in today,” Pettersen said. “Overall putting great. Greens are very, very fast. The course is in good shape. I'm surprised
there are not that many low scores for the perfect conditions. This course is challenging no matter what, I mean, if you feel comfortable. You never really have a flat lie, so that's the one challenge”.
