Evian Masters Gala 2012: LPGA stars mesmerise fans with their attire
The Evian Masters 2012 ended with a flurry of excitement last Sunday, witnessing some players proving their worth and some faltering, but another event that gripped the attention of golf crazy fans in France
was the Evian Masters Gala 2012.
The Evian Masters Gala, held on Saturday night, saw the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) stars strutting their stuff in front of their fans and guests.
There was hardly any standing room at the venue, Evian-les-Bains, on Saturday night as most of the prominent LPGA titans showed off their creativity and aspirations during a star-studded dinner.
Key players who showed off their attire include Scottish Carly Booth, Brittany Lincicome, Paula Creamer, Beatriz Recari, Mariajo Uribe, Julieta Granada, Michelle Wie, Danielle Kang, Natalie Gulbis, Ai Miyazato,
Cristie Kerr and Cheyenne Woods.
An overwhelming number of fans flocked to Gala dinner to see how their favourite stars look off the course. Fans reacted amazingly well, saying it is fun to see the prominent LPGA contenders, who are usually
seen hitting ball on the course, have come out completely dressed up to grace the party. Fans also had a chance to meet a bunch of players, enjoying their time.
Generally, most of the players in women’s golf are known for their game and profile, but there are a number of players who came into prominence by attracting fans outside the golf course.
Michelle Wie might not have impressed her fans on the course, but she boasts a huge number of fans who admire her mainly because of her clothing and style off the course. Wie has been under criticism for bringing
glamour to the sport, but at the same time, she is appreciated for boosting the image of golf among people who do not pay much attention to it.
Speaking during one of her interviews, Wie said that she has been associated with fashion since she was a kid. She said that being in the public eye is all in a day’s work for her, but golf has definitely given
her added advantage in terms of fame and money.
The American star said that she never misses a chance to wear showy outfits to different events, as it is something she has been doing for a long time now.
“I’ve grown up looking through Vogue [magazines] since I was young. When looking at the smiling models, I’d think how beautiful they are and feel happy. These days I purposely change my style each day. I even
dress in hippie and punk fashions; it’s really fun to get dressed,” Wie recounted her early days when she was rising to fame.
“Fashion is what I like best, next to golf. When I travel, I purchase a copy of a fashion magazine such as Vogue to read. I like Chanel, as well as Louis Vuitton. I think getting a lot of exercise from when
I was young helped my body figure to be healthy and have balance”.
Golf experts said that it is a good sign that women’s golf is able to attract many fans off the course. They said players on the LPGA are not just known for their skills on the course, they enjoy massive fan
following off the course as well. With players like Wie, Natalie Gulbis and Suzann Pettersen of Norway having risen to fame through their off-course activities, women’s golf is fast emerging as a sport capable to go hand in hand with fashion industry.
