Evian Masters Golf Course to undergo major changes
Evian Masters golf course is considered to be one of the most beautiful golf courses in Europe. It is also considered to be one of the most difficult courses to play on.
This year will be the final year of the Evian Masters event as we know it. Next year, it will be upgraded to the fifth and final major LPGA golf event. This hike in the status means that the golf course will undergo many changes.
Some of the holes will be redesigned and new structures will be added to bring the course up to the level of an international LPGA compliant golf course. New features such as mini lakes and new traps will change the outlook of the course.
The major changes will be an addition of 112 yards to the course. This addition is spread over the holes, so now individual holes have lengthened out. This change will affect the strategy of many players who have played earlier on the course.
The design calls for minimal intrusion into the current layout and design of the course. This means that majority of the tees, green, water features and bunkers will either be re-modelled or upgraded instead of being completely removed.
The plan calls for rescaling of the greens and bunkers to fit the design of the course. The course, which is rather narrow for its size, will now feature smaller bunkers and tees.
The Spanish player Azahara Munoz talked at length about these changes. She was pleased about the increased lengths but though that some of the holes, particularly the 14th hole, could use a redesign.
Sandra Gal, a member of the European Solheim Cup is also very pleased with the changes. She said, “I think the changes are good. It’s a little longer and a little more challenging but I think it’s good for everyone”.
Two-time winner of the Evian Masters, Ai Miyazato from Japan is rethinking her strategy. She said, “This year will be a little bit different. It’s a bit longer than last year so I think my strategy will be different.” She added that her strength is her short
game and putting.
