Evian Masters Juniors Cup: The United States wins the title
Team US won the Evian Masters Juniors Cup 2012. This win came after the US team competed against top teams from 15 countries.
The event lasted two days and the top under-14 players came to play in the event that has gained the reputation of a de facto world cup of the age bracket. The event is a prelude to the Evian Masters, one of the most eagerly anticipated golf tournaments
in the world.
When the tournament started, many people put their money on Spain, the defending champion and the most favourite team of the event.
Indeed, given the performance of the Spanish players in the recent tournaments, it was apparent that they were very confident of their win in the Evian Masters Juniors Cup.
The event started as imagined, with the Spanish team leading the event. They set a 213 points lead that appeared hard to beat for any team. In a surprising turn of the events, the US players moved ahead and finished the tournament with a 5-stroke lead over
the Spanish team.
According to the commentators, two girls in the US team were instrumental in the win. Mika Liu and Sierra Brooks played top notch golf and steadily wore out the Spanish lead.
Evian Masters Juniors Cup has a well founded reputation as the most prestigious golf tournament for young golfers. One of the main reasons is its attachment to the highly acclaimed Evian Masters.
Evian Masters started out as a minor tournament on LET. Because of its venue and the players who grace the event, the tournament went on to become a major attraction on the LET calendar.
Evian Masters Juniors Cup is only six years old. This is a relatively short period for a tournament of this high a status. Many critics say that this is due to the high sponsorships that the tournament attracts but many LET players disagree.
According to them, it is the golf course and the excellent exposure to international golf that attracts many players and, hence, the sponsors to the event. Evian Masters Juniors Cup is still young and will gain even greater fan following in the coming years.
