Evian Masters: Karine Icher scores 72 in second round
French Karine Icher posted a 72 in the second round of the Evian Masters 2012 to stand tied for the 23rd position on the leaderboard.
Icher, who got off to a decent start on Thursday at Evian-les-Bains, kept the momentum going and played a better-than-expected game. Icher is one of six French players in the roster, and has vowed to do something
amazing for her country this time.
The LPGA star has been able to display a far better performance than other fellow French players — something that has helped her gain plenty of support from the golf crazy French crowd.
Icher kicked off her second round with her eyes set on her nearest rivals. She parred the first seven holes and launched a birdie on the difficult par-3 8th hole. Icher’s first birdie for the round
sent the crowd cheering, but on the back nine, she fumbled her hard-earned position.
The professional golfer faltered on most of the holes on the back nine, as she could not judge the ball properly. After birdying the par-4 12th hole, the French player made several strokes on the
13th in a bid to remain under par, but all she could do was card a double bogey.
She wavered once again, as she shot a bogey on the 16th hole.
Analysts said that the Icher appears to have proved her mettle in the Evian Masters, and she is firm to move ahead by scoring well.
Speaking to the media about her performance in the second round, the French star said that she is not unhappy with what way she started the day, but she made several mistakes.
She said that her putting was the reason for her lower score. “Playing good.  Putting was not as good as yesterday.  The green was a little bit slower because obviously we're playing in the afternoon so it's
slower than in the morning. So I missed some makable putts.  Hope to do better tomorrow,” Icher said.
She went on to say that the crowd at Evian Masters 2012 was amazing and this is what helped most of the players remain in high spirits. “It's fun to play with all the fans and all the people watching for you
and go for you.  So it's a lot of fun”.
