Ligue 2 Champions Evian TG have signed experienced goalkeeper, Stephan Anderson, from Danish Superliga side, Brondby. The Danish international has signed a contract for two seasons with the Thonon-les-Bains-based club.
Newly promoted to Ligue 1 side, Evian TG, were looking to survive in their first appearance in France’s top division. After two rounds of football, the club have done well to be lying at the 7th spot.
Bernard Casoni, coach at Parc des Sports, will be proud in achieving a remarkable feat in the second week as he led the team to bag their maiden victory by beating OGC Nice 1-0.
Stephan Anderson graduated from Danish outfit Hvidovre IF’s youth academy, where he was promoted to the senior team and debuted in 2000. The Danish international had been linked with many clubs including English Premier League sides Aston Villa and Sunderland,
but he joined Brondby in January 2007.
The 29-year-old goalkeeper was awarded Danish under-21 Talent of the Year in 2003 as well as Danish Goalkeeper of the Year in 2008. The Copenhagen-born keeper has sharp reflexes, is quick off the line and covers the box with much agility.
After signing with Evian TG, the Scandinavian was quoted saying, “I always had the ambition to leave. Discussions with Evian had already started. And I think this is the best choice. I also had the option of extending with Brondby but I preferred to move
on to a new challenge.”
The Danish keeper also added that given the opportunity to play in the upcoming Ligue 1 match against AC Ajaccio, he will definitely show no signs of rustiness as he has already played for Brondby in five league games this season.
Evian TG will be playing AC Ajaccio at Stade Francois Coty and although the current goalkeeper, Quentin Westberg, has shown great temperament, the 49-year-old French tactician might prefer using a more experienced shot-stopper in Stephan Anderson as he prepares
his team for big matches to come.
