Evidence favours Without Prejudice at York
It’s not often that Jeremy Noseda and Daryl Holland team up, but when they do – the phrase ‘deadly duo’ springs to mind. At York in the past five seasons the pair have a 66% strike rate and they join forces to saddle Without Prejudice in the feature Acorn Web Offset Handicap today.
The C&D winner, who formerly sought to win his races from the front, has been going through a transitional period in terms of tactics. His last two runs have seen him held up at the back of field and making his challenge from there. It came close to working at Newmarket towards the end of last season, where he finished a staying on sixth, and you can scratch his last run in May where he fluffed the start.
Lady Paris broke her maiden tag last time out in good style on soft ground, but it’s the form of her first run at Redcar that makes her an attractive proposition today in the TSG Nursery. The form of that race, where she finished a neck behind Nawaashi (who finished two lengths off Group race winner Soraaya) has worked out very well with all of the first four going on to win again. This makes her rating of 77 look very attractive, and if she’s improved from her run then she could take all the beating. Alben Star brings strong claims and will go off favourite after a gutsy win at Ayr, but the form of that race hasn’t worked out as good as expected and he may be vulnerable off a stiff looking mark of 90.
Kirklees finished just over a length behind Kings Gambit in the Doonside Cup Stakes last month but is fancied to turn around the form in the Garbutt & Elliott Conditions Stakes. The conditions of the race mean the Godolphin runner is two pounds better off with Kings Gambit this time around, and considering last time out was Kirklees first run for nearly a year, he should be at optimum fitness today and looks a good thing.
In what looks a pretty ordinary E B F Read Paul Nicholls Exclusively On Betfair Maiden Stakes, one of the newcomers can make a winning start to their careers as horses such as Queen of the Desert and Rudegirl look awfully exposed. Out of the debutants What About You from the powerful Richard Fahey yard looks to have the most potential, but a market move for Mark Johnson’s newcomer Shiratki, who has Frankie Dettori on board, would be a positive sign.
