Question:

Evidence that global warming is a natural process?

What are some points of evidence that show that global warming is not the cause of human activity? We already pretty much know that global warming is in effect. But what I need to pinpoint is how it is not caused by humans.

  1. Consider this. Co2, the bad guy, is in concentrations of 380 parts per million. Up from 280ppm in the pre industrial age, or about 1880. So...out of a million total parts of  atmosphere, we increase it by 100 PARTS PER MILLION, to 380ppm . There's a million parts of atmosphere, we add 100 parts of co2 (once again, out of a total of 1 million) that's 1,000,000 to 100. And the globe is warming because of that 100ppm? And at the same time we know, that many other planets and their moons, are warming also? C'mon man! If you can find a warming graph that doesn't start at 1880, or the ridiculous Mann graph (the hockey stick) Our current warming doesn't look out of line.

  2. Natural warming has occurred in the past.  Here's one example:

    http://www.killerinourmidst.com/P-T%20bo...

"An even larger amount of carbon dioxide (CO¸2) would also have been expelled by Traps volcanism. But in contrast to the sulfate aerosols, carbon dioxide remains in the atmosphere for extended periods of time (centuries), though it decreases slowly over that interval.  As a greenhouse gas, it warms the atmosphere, changing ecological conditions. (Deccan Traps volcanism, coming before the end of the Cretaceous, is estimated to have warmed the world by 3° to 5°C, or 5.4° to 9°F; Ravizza and Peucker-Ehrenbrink, 2003.) And because it combines chemically to form carbonic acid, it also produces mildly acidic rain. Acid rain can dissolve calcium carbonate shells, particularly those at or near the ocean surface.  Additionally, acid rain leaches vital nutrients from the soil, resulting in plant stunting and death."

Climate Model Links Warmer Temperatures to Permian Extinction

    http://www.physorg.com/news6003.html

"The CCSM indicated that ocean temperatures warmed significantly at higher latitudes because of rising atmospheric levels of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas. The warmer temperatures reached a depth of about 10,000 feet (4,000 meters), interfering with the normal circulation process in which colder surface water descends, taking oxygen and nutrients deep into the ocean.

As a result, ocean waters became stratified with little oxygen, proving deadly to marine life. Because marine organisms were no longer removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, that, in turn, accelerated warming temperatures.

"The implication of our study is that elevated [carbon dioxide] is sufficient to lead to inhospitable conditions for marine life and excessively high temperatures over land would contribute to the demise of terrestrial life," the authors conclude.

So as you can see the details of past warmings often provide evidence for CO2 as an effective greenhouse gas, and an increase in CO2 can occur by natural processes.

The carbon dioxide release doesn't happen to be occuring naturally this time, but you could argure that the warming that results is perfectly natural once we've put all that CO2 out there.

  3. Usually global warming is a natural process.  Of course, this time it's not, but obviously it was natural before humans came along.  The link below should help you.

  4. The scientific community has determined that CO2 is by far the largest driver of global warming.  Solar energy is a small fraction of watts/Sq.Meter that is created by C02 or the other greenhouse gases.

We know that most of the CO2 is created by man because:

    1) The increase has been greater over land in the more heavily populated Northern Hemesphere

    2) The isotopes show that the majority of the increase is created by burning CO2.

The many of the other greenhouse gases have no natural source.

  5. Global warming in fact does happen naturally over thousands of years.  Its the natural balance of things.  Methane deposites are found all over the world slowly bubbling up from the bottom of lakes and oceans.  The problem is humans are adding to the natural outlet of these gasses speeding it up.  Dinosaurs didnt drive cars.  The worst they did was f**t.  Humans however burn trash, coal, natural gas, oil, and other products that turn into added gasses thus straining the balance the planet has developed to keep global warming on track.  We arent the cause of global warming.  Were the cause in its speeding up.  Were going to be the cause of our own extinction.

  6. Take a look at a new publication from the US National Academies of Science.  Is is only 20 pages, written to be very clear, and has good graphics.  I think it answers your question.

  7. every few thousand years the earth heats up and cools down because the Earth isn't on a stable axis, it wobbles. Two examples of warming up are the end of the ice age and during the middle ages their was a population rise in France because of the high temperatures creating bumper crops.

  8. Unförtunately, we will nöt knöw the answer tö that for anöther 10,000 years ör maybe möre.  That is because we dö nöt have anything tö cömpare tö ör rate the Pröblem against yet.

  9. There is currently no evidence that man has made any significant contribution to climate change.

    Some interesting facts.

    1. During much of the past 2,000 years, the temp has been about the same or higher. Currently, we are barely over the average for the last 2,000 years.

    2. During the medieval warm period (820 – 1040 AD), Greenland supported farming. Those areas previously farmed are now covered in glaciers. Obviously the melting and reformation of glaciers is a cyclical occurrence.

    3. The earth experienced a little ice age which ended around the late 1860's or so. This is about the time man started recording temperatures. This would be like measuring a lake depth after a severe drought, then worrying about it flooding as it rose to normal levels.

    4. The earth has been warming for the last 10,000 years, since the last major glacier time period. Also, for most of the last 1 billion years, the earth had NO glaciers or ice coverage.

    5. The AGW theory states that CO2 is the primary driver of temperature. They arrived at this idea because they did not know of anything else which could cause it. But during the 70's and during the current decade, temperatures dropped while CO2 continued to rise. This means that natural occurrences are driving temp, not CO2.

    6. The Pacific Decadal Oscillation and sun spots provides a much better correlation to earths' temperature than CO2 levels ever have.

    7. Polar Bears are experiencing a population boom. Coke sales in the arctics are through the roof. Polar Bears have been around for thousands of years, and remember, we are only at the average for the last 2,000 years. They lived through all the previously warmer climates.

    8. The glaciers have been melting now for over 10,000 years. the current rate of melting is similar to previous melting.

    9. There is no consensus on AGW. This was a lie that has been propagated by the media.

    10. Yes we emit CO2 into the atmosphere and it is a greenhouse gas, but, we only contribute about .28% of all the greenhouse effect. Water vapor makes up about 95% of the greenhouse effect. CO2 and other trace gases round out the greenhouse gases at about 5% for all of them. Of that 5%, only 3% is CO2, and most of that is natural. Again, our contribution to the greenhouse effect is a paltry .28%

    11. The spread of disease is not attributed mainly to temperature. If this were the case, Florida would be a giant festering disease ridden cesspool. Economic standing is the primary determining factor in the spread of disease. Poor cultures can not fight the disease or eradicate the pests like more successful nations.

  10. There are many, how many do you want ?

There's the fact that temperature of the globe has plateau'd since 1998 and gone down 1/2 a degree in 2007 due to less sun spot activity. If co2 or human activity was the real cause, temperature would have continued to rise.

There's the media coverate and hype going over the past 100 years that has touted 2 full cycles of heating, cooling, heating and cooling...Now we are heating again or at least were, but as early as the 70's these supposed experts were claiming we were heading toward a mini ice age.

How about the fact that we underwent a lot of industrialization as a nation from 1945 to the 70's and while co2 and yes...pollution was on should have been an issue due to the increased output from America....the temperature was actually decreasing.

It has been proven that each 'developing' country goes through an industrialization period, then after reaching a particular level, they automatically turn their efforts to cleaning up their nation because no one likes to live in a pig sty. People in LA use to complain about their lungs hurting at the end of the day from breathing the air, conservation took off alot in commercials in the 70's and has continued to date, with additions of eco friendly products, recycling, etc.

The problem is with the Al Gore hypsters. They are laughing all the way to the bank and getting credit for things they never did. They didn't start the movement, they only hyped the crisis. And the "crisis" is a hoax.

Many steps have been taken to reduce real pollution over the decades and we never needed Al (chicken little) Gore to warn us or hype the issue. People like that only get emotional and panic. Its the sane and sound that buckle down to actually solve the issue.

They can make clothes from Bamboo now ......which is a travesty of the "green" movement because it takes more to process bamboo to even make it wearable...which adds to pollution due to the lengthy process of processing. The 'green" movement is being hijacked by the insane and socialists. The fake enviromentalists need to be kicked to the curb.

These so called enviromentalists will usually site web sites to support their irrational views, but i've been to many...not all, and most tout some position that's usually assumed. There's no real proof, or they ask you to give them latitude in belief. IF you go strickly by a "battle of the web sites" you'd be confused, which is why you take yourself out of the whacko laboratories and theory realm and compare it to the real world. Check out the media coverage of reported temps and pollution. Check out what has happened in the past decades. The polar bear for instance has been put on the endangered species list, yet reality and facts show that they went from a population of 12,000 in the 70's to 25,000 in the 21st century. So, if this gobal warming is such a big deal, tell me why they lie so much in the face of proof ?

  11. Melting glaciers that used to cover the North American Continent.

Apparently global warming has been going on a long time, way before the use of any fossil fuels by humans.

  12. 'We arent the cause of global warming. Were the cause in its speeding up. Were going to be the cause of our own extinction." Well put, Christopher Michael.

As others have already said, global warming has occurred in the past without human interference.  But the current warming trend definitely has been affected by human activities.

  13. 150,000 years ago temperatures changed all over and the people living back in the time did not have anything to be blamed for that they caused Global Warming. It is not caused by humans. Right now I think it is the sun. Some scientists said that it is not humans who are causing changes in climate, it is the sun that is changing climates. The sun changes as it gets older and that is what changes the temperatures the sun releases or heat and other things release. That is what caused climate changes. The Sun.

Hope I answered your question good.

  14. You should research something first and then come to a conclusion.  You seem to have already concluded that human activity is not responsible and now you're looking for something to support that. I'd challenge you to reconsider your position.  Spend some time with an open mind researching the issue and then make an unbiased decision.
