Evo vs. Eclipse Spyder vs. Challenger

Im thinking about buying a new 09 car but cant decide on which to pick. I really like the evo and the spyder.

Challenger too but noone really has alot of information about them since the last one was only limited edition...

So I like the Spyder GT cause its a convertible and the looks, and the EVO for looks and power.

(im not sure how the new Evo works cause it has some kinda double transmisson thats messing me up. does this double transmisson hit you hard with mpg?)

If you had a choice which of these cars would you pick and why?

If anyone owns one of these please comment on how you like it

Thanks

  1. Here is the order of purchase from best to worse:

Lancer Evolution X (GSR/MR): It will cost you anywhere from 36,000 to 42,000 dollars. The GSR has a 5 speed manual transmission with 291 hp. It shares the same AWD system as the MR. Both trims have the AYC (active yaw control) that powers the car in curves. Mitsubishi's AWD system is one of the best systems in the world. The MR has the twin clutch sportronic shift transmission (TC-SST). Driving the MR is like driving a regular auto tranny but you have a choice to manually shift the car by sliding the shifter to the left  while in Drive. While in manual mode, you can also use the paddle shifters to shift gears. With the twin clutch system, gear changes are hardly felt. It just happens in one seamless motion. The odd gears have one clutch and the even gears have one. When changing gears (automatically or manually), one clutch disengages while the other clutch engages. There is a split second overlap between the disengagement and engagement of the two clutches so that when the change occurs, the shift is hardly felt and the power is delivered in one smooth, continuous fashion. Besides the internal wonder of this car, the looks also catches the eye if you look quick enough before the car disappears from your sight. The front fascia is menacing and aggressive. When you see this car coming at you in your rear view mirror, better step aside. Otherwise it will swallow you whole and spit you out.

Eclipse Spyder GT: Powerful V6 engine with 265 hp to boot. Pretty quick despite its heft. It looks sporty but does not really inspire confidence. It tries to plow ahead during sharp turns. The convertible, when the top is up, is plagued with a huge blind spot in the rear. When you get this car, forget about having your friends and family in the back seat because they'll hate you for stashing them back there. It's too small!

Challenger SE, R/T, SRT: The only car that's worth considering is the SRT. I am not big on American cars but I like this one...a lot! 425 brut horses in the hood of that massive piece of machine. Wow!!! This trim is worth a second look. It is aesthetically well put together. Big car, big wheels (not too big!), and a huge 6.1 liter V8 Hemi engine. Unfortunately, it's made by Chrysler. The company's cars have really been plagued by subpar fit and finish. With a car that will cost close to 45,000 (SRT), I'd expect a better quality interior. The only redeeming aspect in this car if you think of it is just the Hemi engine. The rest of the car is old technology. And to attract buyers, bring in the retro-look.

  2. i would choose the evo 9 instead of the new evo 10

has more power and better looks

    eclipse transmission really sucks

challenger is just a heavy duty and eating your gas

go with the evo but the evo 9

  3. Evo by far would be my choice. The evo's have way more power and can be upgraded to go fast for less than the other cars. The only way I'd buy an eclipse is if it were an older one (before the evo's came out) plus the evo's 4 cyl. engine has better gas mileage than the other car.

  4. I liked Eddie's answer but he makes some mistakes on the Challenger.  Bet he hasn't seen one in person yet.  Chrysler gets an old rap on fit and finish.  Chysler is one of the better ones now, especially after the Mercedes influence.  My 99 Ram Truck doors still shut better than most high end cars out there and it has 174,000 miles on it.  The Challenger interior is awsome and the sound system is one of the best ones out there.  It is a big car and it will use more gas especially with the 6.1 but the 5.7 won't be much better.  One thing to think about.  If you take care of the car (any of them) in 20 years the Challenger will be collectable and worth more than either of the other two.  The tuner cars will never be collectable and will all end up crushed and as the next version of the tuner.  American Iron especially cars like the New Mustang and Challenger (and the Challenger even more than the Mustang) will be collector items one day.

  5. The Challenger SRT8 is a beautiful car bringing back nice old high horsepower looks. The 6,1L Hemi engine in this car will make it shake when the gas is punched. Some minor problems I see in the car include that it is a $600+ upgrade for a manual transmission, and the strong engine will definitely eat away gas.

I do not have much knowledge or experience with the eclipse so I'm not going to b.s. or look up an answer for that part.

As an EVO VIII owner I am very partial to the evolution because of its stock power, ability to modified, and steering capabilities. Agreeing with an earlier answer I wold not purchase an EVO X right now. There is not as much development with the new engine Mitsubishi has gone to for that generation of EVO, and while the top companies have already come out with numerous after market modifications they are under researched and expensive. The EVO IV MR is always a powerful great choice of car.
