Question:

Evolution / creationism. Surely the 3rd way makes more sense?

The aliens that every ancient civilisation worshiped who geneticlaly engineered us seems to make more sense. Are there any other ex-communicated clergy like myself who've seen the dark.

  1. We have solid evidence of a massive meteor bombardment from 3.8 to 4 billion years ago.  That probably wiped the slate clean.  The oldest fossil evidence is 3.7 billion years ago with apparent structures called stromatolites.  Assuming they are the same organisms as exist in modern stromatolites, that means life evolved very quickly.  You could argue that it implies it may have been seeded from asteroids but it also argues that it could have independently evolved very quickly.  It pretty much puts a bullet in the theory of creation of advanced forms in their present condition.

  2. A. Why would Aliens do this- if they like this place, why don't they just move in without any competition,resistance?-B.If they want to be able, say, to come back later to harvest genes or something and they have the technology-why wait?-C.Why is the concept of Evolution in and of itself so untenable given the similarity with Chimpanzee DNA?

  3. A fourth way.  The aliens created God, who followed suit and created us. We then created ipods.

  4. Examine the fossil record of humans, the other primates, and their predecessors. It goes back many millions of years. You seem to be replacing the outdated concept of a supreme being breathing life into a man, from clay, with that of extraterrestrials using genetic engineering: more modern, yes, although not supported by the physical evidence in the DNA, and fossil record. Even the Roman catholic church has accepted evolution. Only the fundamentalists are holding out, now, and looking like flat earthers for it.

  5. You mean evolution / creation ?

Your third way is the same as evolution - it just moves the problem of the origin of life to somewhere else. It has been seriously suggested by great minds such Sir Fred Hoyle - who can see that evolution of life on earth is quite impossible.

The only logical option is creation - created stuff requires a creator. Complexity and design requires a creator.

  6. Are you talking about the plot of the next Stargate movie?

Sometimes science doesn't make sense and contradicts preconceived notion. Science tells us the world is a sphere, even though everything seems to be flat. Our perception tells us that the sky and the sun revolve around us, yet science tells us that we revolve around the sun.

Mankind invented religions and created God(s) in their own image in order to make us feel better about ourselves. Creationists and IDers believe that a loving humanoid Judeo-Christian God created man because mankind is special and the earth is in the center of the universe.

Science has given us evolution, and shown that mankind isn't all that special after all, and certainly not some God-chosen species.

Believing that a loving humanoid God created us in 7 days certainly does have its perks over believing that we were created through a natural scientific process over hundreds of millions of years without the 'direct' intervention of deities.

  7. It certainly makes more sense than evolution, which incidentally has never been proved, but I think I would go for intelligent design, as this theory seems much more believable.

  8. I think the theories of evolution, creation and intervention are compatible.  We could have been created, evolved and genetically manipulated.

  9. The suggestion may make more sense to you but it makes no sense whatever to me!  I'll back Mr Darwin as offering the most rational explanation.

  10. I just don't see any other answer than God, nor do I want to. You get nothing from nothing as I see it and something had to start all this. It just didn't happen. Its better to live your life as if there is a God.
