Question:

Evolution or Creation? Essay?

I have to write an essay on which origin theory I believe in for Ancient Civilizations. Honestly, I'm stuck between both. This essay is the most important part of the course, next to the final exam. I'm in grade 11. Which one do you firmly believe and why?

Thanks in advance! (:

  1. I think you would find more research materials on evolution rather than creation.

You could compare creation theories from other cultures around the world, that would be interesting.

I personally believe in evolution, after all, societies are always changing.  Plus, there is just more research and science behind the evolutionary theories.  Then again, they are theories and not facts.  Neither evolution or creationism are facts, unless you believe the words of the bible as a historical document but nobody was around to write how the world was created, in the bible, its a theory or story passed down from generation to generation which eventually got written down.  So that doesn't make it any more factual than any native American stories or east Indian stories (which a lot of science now backs up about how the planets came into being).

I think the best way, and most interesting would be to compare or contrast different creation stories from around the world.

  2. I have no great problem with the proven theory of micro-evolution, just the muddled conjecture called macro-evolution.

    Evolution -

    1. It doesn't account for the origin of life, which is presumed.

    2. It doesn't account for creation of 'consciousness' and actions beyond impulse and instinct.

Life evolving from none life I am sure we would all agree is an impossibility !!!! yet we somehow seem to make an exception for the Big-Bang theory ?

All the living creatures in the fossil record appear intact and in their perfect forms. For instance, before crocodiles and squirrels, there exist no fossils belonging to any strange creature partly resembling a crocodile, and in other parts to a squirrel or other living creatures. Squirrels have always remained squirrels, and crocodiles have always remained crocodiles. All these facts reveal that the claim of the theory of evolution, that "Living beings have gradually evolved over millions of years of time" is simply a product of imagination.

Believing that pure chance can produce perfect designs goes well beyond the bounds of reason.

Believing in evolution on the 'grand' scale is like saying an explosion in a printing factory could put together a dictionary and that one day that dictionary would become an encyclopedia !!

  3. Evolution has no answer for creation...it is a separate field of study known as Abiogenesis. Evolution theory only pertains to what occurs to life after it's inception which is taken as being axiomatic...unobservable yet known.

Abiogenesis...life from non-life.... however contradicts the fundamental law of biology...the Law of Biogenesis...which states that all life comes from previous living things and has never been refuted. No one has ever observed or experimentally demonstrated that life can form from non-living matter through purely natural processes. There are several hypothesis' as to how this may have occurred but none have been proven. Another possible means is suggested through panspermia or life originated on earth from extraterrestrial sources which also has problems since it contradicts the Law of Biogenesis as well...it just moves the origin from earth to outer space. If life does not arise on earth from non-living materials through natural processes, how could it do so in space with much harsher conditions? Solar radiation, extreme cold, lack of water, cosmic collisions, etc...And arrive on earth?

Another problem with Abiogenesis and Panspermia is the formation of an informational system such as DNA which is found in all life forms on earth.

Informational systems such as DNA and textual speech are non-material entities and do not form from material objects through pure random chance. Randomness is the exact opposite of informational systems with the exception of encryption codes which still require an intelligently designed code "key" for encryption and decryption. Any book has the same mass as another book of the same amount of random letters and punctuation...the informational system of context and meaning in the words and punctuation have no mass in and of themselves...the thoughts and meanings are non-material entities. DNA has been called the language or software of life and is billions of times more complex and compact than any computer code or hardware man has created....yet no one questions that they were intelligently designed and created.

All non-natural creations require a Creator. All the scientific evidence and laws of science point to a non-natural creation of life from nothing...a supernatural Creator as explained in the Biblical account of Genesis.

    Romans 1:20

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

  4. I'm a creationist, and just to warn you, they have yet to find solid evidence on evolution. Adaptation is a fact, but something eventually adapting into a different species, well so far, we haven't seen that. We probably never will. The point is, there's only one way to know for sure what went on, and that is to use a time machine to travel back 400 million years ago, and see if you see the coalecanth that's supposedly the ancestor of all land animals pop out an egg that hatches into a giant salalmander, or if we see God making plans to create everything. Either way, we don't ave time travel yet, so we're going to have to debate with what we believe now, and figure out later, when we invent time travel.

  5. Ancient Civilizations did not believe in evolution, at least as we know it.  Each one had its own (and often very different) version of the origins of the universe, this planet, their area of the world and the people themselves.

Strictly speaking, evolution does not discuss the origin, but only the development of systems (especially life forms).  The Big Bang is a theory of the origin of the universe based upon astronomy, not biology.

  6. "Science has proof without certainty. Creationists have certainty without proof."

    Ashley Montague

By "proof without certainty" Think of a rainy day. A friend comes into the room. They're dressed in a raincoat and water is dripping off them. Can you be certain that they were outside in the rain?

Could someone have been out in the hallway and poured a bucket of water on them? It's possible but having them out in the rain is more likely.

Evolution is a theory but in science "theory" means "explanation." So the cry "Evolution is only a theory" really says "Evolution is only an explanation."

You will get some insight by searching the answers with "evolution" in them. The typical creationist post tend to be along "Evolution is wrong." Which is treating the issue like a nasty  political campaign. Trowing mud at your opponent doesn't make your theory "right."

Evolution has been around for 150 years and no basic tent has been shown to be wrong. Can we be certain? No. We can't agree on a controversal sports play seen by millions, much less something millions of years ago.

However, like the friend in the wet raincoat, evolution is the simplist explaination for the known facts
