I am not talking about natural selection here, i am talking about this whole world happening by chance... it being here, in this perfect spot.

My question is: Where did it come from? And where did that come from? And where did that come from? Etc...

Something HAD to be created, right?

  1. WHY oh why does it HAVE to be one or the other. I am a Christian, but I also have faith in science. They do not have to conflict.

  2. The Bible is a wonderful book.  It is the inspired word of God. But it is not a science text. It does not give the date of creation. It teaches us about the love of God.  It does not give specifics about the world. God is still involved in the creation of every human being, but that does not negate the biological process as we know it.

There are various scientific truths.  God is truth. The science behind this computer does not deny God.  We have learned about God's creation through science.  If the laws of math, physics, chemistry, and biology are true, then they are of God. Through science we find support for evolution. It is not a perfect understanding, but it is based scientific principles revealed by God.

Science can neither confirm or deny the existence of God.  It can only deal with what can be observed and measured.  God is beyond its scope.

  3. Its not impossible that something like life would happen in something as large as space and as for the origons of the universe(the big bang) thats the current limit of science.

Think of this like a horizon, scientists correctly make no assumptions about what lies beyond the horizon without at leas some provisional evidence. If ideologues dont they are in danger of creating warped views of reality which conform to there fears and beliefs. Such as Sailors who thought that the horizon was the edge of the world which they could fall off. The church thought the earth was the center of the universe and flat and persecuted scientists. If these assumptions werent overthrown the free development of physics would have been supressed and as such technological progress emerging from modern physics.

  4. Evolution is not contradictory with Christianity one way or the other. However, it is patently ridiculous as a scientific theory. To have a survival advantage mutated (evolved) creatures would not only need their new physical characteristics but a nerve center in the brain to operate them - and this has to happen instantly or there is no survival advantage. I think there's a way better chance that the tooth fairy exists than there is that that could happen. The fact is that science, while having done many great things, has no answer for the beginning (don't even get me started on big bang which not even the scientists really believe - I don't have enough space).

  5. First off: Even if the answer to your final question was "yes" (which I am not saying it is), that is no way relates to evolution or a dismissal of it occurring.

The admission that there could be a 'creator' only adds another step to your second question. Who created the creator? and then who created the creator creator? ad infinitum.

I've included some links below, both are enlightening.

  6. Oh boy, be prepared, fasten your seat belt it's going to be a bumpy night! I'll be interested to see your answers...but they are fairly predictable.

  7. It's one thing to say that the world seems too much like a perfect coincidence. Its something else to go on from there to the Bible being God's special revelation to believers, and Christianity being the One True Religion.

The vast majority of people who reject evolution are Christians.  They believe a literal interpretation of Genesis, which I personally believe to be even less likely than evolution.

The fact is, there are hundreds of billions of galaxies in the universe, each with hundreds of billions of stars, many of which have planets.  Considering all the likely planets, it would be considered almost a statistical certainty that there  are other planets with life on them.

I would be more willing to consider the possibility of 'intelligent design' if all the people pushing it weren't also pushing the same alternative. 8^)  As it is, 'intelligent design' is no more than Biblical creationism disguised as a 'science'.
