Question:

Evolution vs. creation?

I am required to research the Endosymbiont Theory and then present the evolutionist's and creationist's point of view on this theory. I think I know what the Endosymbiont Theory is, but I have no idea what evolutionists or creationists believe. Could you please help? I need to compare these two with fact and theory, but am quite confused. Thank you!

  1. For what class? I hope not biology! I hear a lot of this lately on YA. You tell your teacher that the law strictly proscribes the establishment of a religious viewpoint in public schools.

The creationist view on any scientific theory is irrelevant, as there only position us, " magic man done it. " That is not scientific inquiry!

It is not a matter of belief, bit of evidence, young lady and the term " evolutionists " suggests a entity, which evolutionary theory is not, being a method of inquiry.

Facts are a dime a dozen. Evolution, the change in allele frequency in a population of organisms over time, is a fact. The theory of evolution by natural selection explains this fact. Theories do not get promoted to law, fact, or anything else. Theories contain law and fact and are the highest concept in science

The endosymbiotic theory states that some organelles of the cell were at one time single cell organisms on their own. Then the were drawn into proto-eukaryotes, where they became symbiont's and after time became part of the eukaryotic cell. Mitochondria, who still posses their own DNA, are evidence for this.

Anything creationist have to say about this and I have never seen them say anything, would be incoherent.

Google, " Lynn Margulis ", as she is the scientist who formulated the theory. Go here also.

  2. eveolutionists and creationists believe the world was created in time rather then one person being put here.  The believe we evolved from a primeval species rather then from adam and eve.....

  3. You go to a school that let you talk about creationism "Theories"?

Get out and run as fast as you can. I know I would not hire you.

  4. Is it just me, or is there some kind time warp? A few observations, speculations, opinions.

    1. The universe is TRILLIONS of years old (empirical)

    2. The universe is TRILLIONS of light years wide (empirical)

    3. There are billions of stars in an average galaxy, and many billions of galaxies (empirical).

    3. The Earth is BILLIONS of years old (empirical)

    4. Existence of human evolution that dates at LEAST 5 million years (empirical).

    5. Millions of species have evolved, and many millions have died as a result of the evolution of the earth (empirical).

    6. DNA is a chemical, not unlike Clorox or antifreeze (being a chemical, not necessarily DNA). Chemical reactions universally, unaided by humans, occur every day, as do mutations and changes to organisms (empirical).

    7. As humans, we impose our mortal time line as though the universe surely revolves around us. We also apply our lay mental science to that imposition (speculation).

    8. The Endosymbiont Theory (hypothesis) is reasonable and valid, given the proof of empirical evolutionary data available today.

    9. God created man (faith).

    10. The world is ___ years old (5000 years is the oldest prophetical age I personally have heard, but then again, I am an athiest so I would be unaware of the latest). (speculation/ faith).

I am much older now and have forgotten more thanI learned (yeah, I know. That was a little non sequitor), yet what I have learned has displaced what I struggled to believe. I wish you luck and godspeed.

  5. Your teacher wants you to be like icabodwa.  Knowledgeable without being judgmental. It's hard to do naturally that's probably the why for this exercise.

  6. Wow, this is a complicated assignment.  The Endosymbiont Theory was originally postulated by the Russian botinist,Konstantin Mereschkowski in 1905.  This theory proposes that chloroplasts and mitochondria evovled from certain types of bacteria that prokaryotic cells engulfed through endophagocytosis.  According to the endosymbionttheory, an anaerobic cell probably ingested an aerobic bacterium, but failed to digest it. The aerobic bacterium florished within the  the cell because the cell's cytoplaasm was abundant in half-digested food molecules. The bacterium digested these molecules and great amounts of energy.  The dynamics of this process is defined in a quite lengthly description, and I think that if you require more data on this subject, you can go to wikipedia search site for greater clarification. I find no realistic data that supports the theory of creationism.  Populations who use the data they have accepted as the "the word of god" in the bible, the torah, and the quran are ignoring the scientific evidence that provides accurate data collected that supports the process of evolution from the first molecule to the continued process of evolution which is an ongoing process.  Creationists resist accepting evolution as the dynamic resulting in the development of every species, whether extinct, or continuing evolutionary processes that result in selective adaption, for the success of continuing existence.  Most scientists accept evolution as the process of life existence.  There are a few scientists who embrace creationism, but there is no physical evidence available to support the theory of creationism.  I am content to accept that evolution is the process that has provided the current existing species, and will continue to provide the dynamic resulting in the ongoing progress of lifeforms.

  7. Evolutionist:

Simply stated, the theory of endosymbiosis is the concept that mitochondria and chloroplasts are the result of years of evolution initiated by the endocytosis of bacteria and blue-green algae which, instead of becoming digested, became symbiotic.

    Creationist:

Suddenly  endosymbiosis was created. There was nothing before and the system was complete all at once. The system is so complicated that it could not arise by chance and if even one small part wasn't present, nothing would work. This was accomplished through a supernatural agency.
