Question:

Evolutionary/creationist question?

Not trying to start any blasphemous/c**p throwing fests, but I have traveled every State in the American Union, and several other countries and found much evidence of several hundreds of millions of years of life. Actually billions in some instances.

Although I believe there is a higher being or beings, and do not believe that the bible, if it actually was written by a higher logical being, was accurately translated or purposely re written by man. But there is one verse in the Old Testament that states in the beginning, "In the beginning, God created the Heavens and the Earth." My question is a paradoxical anomaly that no Christian Bible or claims to this one verse states WHEN he or them created them.

So could it be that he or them created it, then decided to create man after a very long time after that, and then decided to create man after that, even if he was only six million years old to date.

I tend to lean towards science and Darwinism more, but don't refute much of Bibles, but maybe he or them made us to question our surroundings, since every other life form seems to run mostly on instinct. And possibly made us from similar instincts and the similar genetics and pretty much the same matter.

  1. The short answer is YES. I,believe He (one God) created the universe in a big bang 14.7 billion yr ago. I grew up in strick church that believed the earth was 6000 years old, Then as I got into my yearly 20's I read the science side of it. I dismissed the young earth belief after I read many books on relative, quantum and astro physics. Today, I say those who don't believe the big bang theorey have never read it, or didn't understand it when they did. I also read the theroy of evalotion. It has more holes in it than a fishermans net.

Simple fact that the followers of the evolution religion can not get around is that life can't from a nonliving source. It takes faith for them to believe what they believe. It takes less faith to believe the Bible. Creationist have this saying, "creation demads a creator And life demands a life giver" that is a powerful statment.

If the universe has expanded and callapesed a trillion times, the first one had to be sparked by someone powerful enought to put that much energy into a singlarity. And life had to have a start from a mother of somekind. I disagree with most all preachers. I hate religion, (including the industry Christianty is in the west) I seldom ever go to church. I drink, cuss and would chase women if I wasn't married. But I also KNOW the Bible is the most fasinating book on earth. I KNOW there is a God who inspired it to be written. I KNOW it is the blood of Jesus (not church attenance or being a good person) that saves us.

Here is one way I look at it. I think God may as well. I don't know how He did it, or when He did it. But i Know He did, and that belief opens up a door to more knowledge.

The belief that the earth is old is called the GAP theory. I am  gapist but different still than most gapist. i follow no man, no doctrine, no religion. I follow Jesus Christ. And am d**n proud of it.

  2. You can look at this way:

    V1   Statement-In the beginning

    V2   Void  (0)

    V3   light   (1)            Jan

    V4   divide (2)

    V5   1st day

    V6   divide (3)           Feb

    V7   divide (4)

    V8   2nd day

    V9   Earth/sea (5)    Mar

    V10 Earth/sea (6)

    V11 Plant  (7)           Apr

    V12 Plant  (8)

    V13 3rd day

    V14 divide (9)          May

    V15  light (10)

    V16  light (11)          June

    V17  light (12)

    V18  divide(13)

    V19 4th day

    V20 waterlife (14)   July

    V21 waterlife (15)

    V22 waterlife (16)

    V23 5th day

    V24 Beast (17)        August

    V25 Beast (18)

    V26 Man (19)           Sept

    V27 Man (20)

    V28 over beast (21)  Oct

    V29 over plant  (22)   Nov

    V30 over both   (23)   Dec

V31 6 day  so, 24 hours divide by 6 day = 4 billion ??going backwards

    6 day, 5 divide, 4 light, 3 beast/plant/water, 2 man/earth, 1 void, 1 both.  One statement

This is so cool, look at the placement of the words from one another.

  3. While critics say of evolution "It's only a theory" Creationists have multiple theories.

    Here are the theories

"Young Earth" Created by supernatural means 6-10,000 years ago

"Old Earth" Earth is millions, not thousands of years old. This theory has several versions:

"Gap" Earth is old but had fallen into decay. Life was begun on the old planet. This does address fossil evidence.

"Progressive" God allows certain things natural selection and mutations to occur but will directly intervene as required.

"Framework Interpretation" holds the Genesis account isn't literal but more represents the outline of how life came to be.

"Day Age" Here it's held that "Day" can be thousands of millions of years. The world was crated in 6 "days" but it was over a very long time.

"Theistic" AKA  "evolutionary creationism", creation is compatible with  scientific theory (evolution) as it is a tool used by God,

" Literal" God created everything in 6 days right before 23 October  4004 BC. Everything in Genesis is correct and true.

Notice evolution and natural selection are allowed in a couple of the theories.

In the majority of the world's religions and faiths evolution isn't an issue As example the Pope and the Catholic Faith accept it.

I recalling listening to a conversation between a very religious person and a minister When asked "Do you believe the bible is the word of god?" He replied "God inspired it but men wrote it." That is, any mistakes in the bible are man's fault.

Here's the problem The issue isn't an "either or" one. It's not a political campaign where negative attack ads will cause voters to switch sides. Every culture, tribe and people  have creation narratives. If people believe in creationism, which creation narrative is the "right" one?

  4. Wow, you got a great answer from icabod.  Yes, there have been many detailed theological interpretations of Genesis, and that the text allows for a gap of unknown time, and that the day length was whatever god wanted it to be.  Maybe the important part is to note that all of the large mainstream Protestant churches, as well as Roman Catholics, accept an age of earth, universe in billions of years, so you can rest easy with that.

As for your last paragraph:  Yes, that is a comfortable way of  acknowledging what your brain tells you about Darwin and science, and keeping god around as the influence on making us human, with souls.  It is, again, the position, in various forms, that all the mainstream churches mentioned take.

But if you continue along that that line, as many anthropologists, evolutionary psychologists, philosophers have done, you may realise that god isn't necessary to make evolution work, or to create the universe from the Big Bang.  Much to much to go into here, of course.  Just all of Western science for the last 150 years.

Which is why fundamentalists don't want to admit the sense of  modern astrophysics, paleontology, evolution, etc.  Once they give way on the first steps, the path leads to scientific materialism.

Or not.  Like I said, many mainstream churches are comfortable with modern science.

Have fun.  It's life's great question.  Get some books...maybe by Stephen Jay Gould, or Michael Shermer.   DON'T go to Religion and Spirituality site....They'll just give you extreme, hostile views.

  5. The universe has more than 10 trillion billion stars and has been found to be around 14 billion years old.  To think that the creator of all that is concerned with human beings in this apparently ordinary corner of the universe is ignoring the obvious.  There may be higher beings but if they created all that, they aren't likely worried about us.  Human beings are obviously physically descended from all other life.  I don't discount the possibility of there being more to us, but we are clearly, at least physically, the result of evolutionary process. Evolution doesn't have a goal to create humans so the idea of something setting it in motion to create us doesn't make sense either.

  6. If that is your belief, then believe it.

It is a religious question, so therefore it is faith based.

There is no answer that we can give you.

  7. The Bible clearly states in Exodus 20:11 that God created the Heavens and the Earth and all that is in them in 6 days...there is no distinction between the "days" of Genesis or Exodus and other "days" in the Bible such as the number of days Jonah was in the whale or the number of "days" the Israelites marched around Jericho. The Hebrew word for "day" that is used in Genesis and other passages is "yom" which ALWAYS means a normal day when used in conjunction with a modifier such as a number. The passages in Genesis also use modifiers to indicate a normal "day"...morning and evening.....which are used for every "day" that is described. Even the "days" described before  the creation of the sun indicate no difference...a day is based on the rotation of the earth...not the presence of the sun. Morning and evening were the terms used for every "day" including the days of light which was not from the sun but probably from a form of plasma such as is found in neon lighting....electrically charged gases of the early universe. Plants, created on day three of creation, could not have survived without sunlight, created on day four, for photosynthesis or without insects, created on days five and six, for pollination.

Passages in the book of Mark 10...which were spoken by Jesus Himself, also verify that Adam and Eve were created in the beginning....they had no ancestors...let alone primate ones. (6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. 7 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; 8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. 9 What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.)

These passages were referring to Genesis 2:23-25

23And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.

24Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.

25And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.

Eve is called the "mother of all the living" in Genesis 3:20 which contradicts evolutionary models of mankind evolving from a common ancestor with primates in several different areas. The creation week, as described in Genesis, ends with the creation of Adam and Eve, which is when the Jewish calendar begins and also is used in determining the age of the earth and  universe by adding up the geneologies in the Bible from Adam until Jesus...and on until today.

The idea that mankind has been on earth for hundreds of thousands of years is based on flawed assumptions...as are the assumptions of millions or billions of years of cosmic or biological evolution and radiometric dating methods.Population studies, using known and accepted scientific mathematical formulas, indicate the current global population of 6.5 billion people is about what you would expect if mankind originated around 4-6000 years ago...if the evolution model is used and mankind originated around 2-500,000 years ago, the current global population would exceed the number of atoms in the universe. Even using an origin of 25,000 years ago and the lowest reproductive rate ever seen, the current global population would still exceed 140 billion people.

  8. Theres the saying of a double edged sword, well this is like a quintuple sided one.

As far as 20 billion years and all that stuff i dont know how scientists do there carbon dating, and im not sure how ligitiment it is. But i'll give you this to ponder....

as far as the begining of the universe

Big Bang -- What ever it was that made it -- where did that stuff come from?

Creation -- Everyone has there problems with looking God in the eyes

As far as Darwanism goes there are alot of loop holes, i forget the exact term, but its something along the lines of intelegent design with the components of a mouse trap, and this is how life is... Three parts to a mouse trap, you throw them all in a bag you can shake the bag for 500 million years, and they wouldnt all come together just right, something or someone has to put them together in just the right order, just the right way. you can look it up if you would like but thats somewhere along the gist of it.
