What is the evolutionary purpose of the "high" that marijuana produces? And since humans don't get high unless they smoke it, does it produce effects in other species from simply oral ingestion?

  1. The "high" that you refer to isn't actually part of the evolutionary purpose of the plant. True, moany humans smoke it as a means to get high, but the most likely solution for the chemical ( Tetrohydrocannabinol ) is that it  is poisonous to some herbivores or that the smell it gives off diverts them from it.

It is unknown really whether or not all animals have the same adverse reactions to marijuana, especially given the ambiguous nature of the plant in comparison to species (c. rudea, c. indica. and c. sativa.)

So, in a nutshell. Humans and their silly pot smoking have nothing to do with the evolutionary purpose of the plant, it's merely an amusing coincidence.

  2. you can get high by eating it.

  3. Bit of a strange question. Yes you can het 'high' by eating it as previous answer mentions.

Thing is that it has always got the human species 'high'. Thing is that humans have created hybrid after hybrid to make the thc content higher and higher, it's not the plant that's evolving, it's the technology we have available and the knowledge about growing conditions that is evolving.
