Patrice Evra knew Dimitar Berbatov's day would come
Manchester United defender Patrice Evra has said that he is not surprised by striker Dimitar Berbatov's strong form in the early stages of the season.
Berbatov, 29, joined United in 2008 for a fee of 31 million Euros and has since been widely criticized for not living up to his hefty transfer fee. During his first two seasons with the club, Berbatov managed to score 23 goals in 64 league appearances, but
fans and pundits seemed to expect more.
Following his hat-trick against Liverpool on Sunday, the Bulgarian has scored six goals in five league appearances this season, and seems to be set for his best season to date at United.
"Berba has had a hard time here and things haven't been easy for him, but he's working very hard and getting the rewards. I'm very happy for him," Evra told United's official TV channel. "He didn't just play well against Liverpool, he's done well since the
beginning of the season. Everyone knows what a big talent he is and he has shown that this season."
Extraordinary skill to be expected
Among the striker's three goals against Liverpool was a spectacular overhead kick that gave United a 2–0 lead. Berbatov controlled Nani's cross from the right wing on his thigh before sending his finish into the top corner with his back to goal.
"He shows many touches like this in training so I wasn't surprised by the goal. He is a player who can do a lot of things and score that type of goal; I hope he carries on doing it for the whole season."
Berbatov's strong form has been particularly useful for Sir Alex Ferguson's team, especially given striking partner Wayne Rooney's uninspired start to the season.
United failed to score against Glasgow Rangers in last week's Champions League encounter, the only game for which Berbatov has been absent in the 2010–2011 campaign.
