Ewan Bennett and Hugo Morris conquer gold medals – Australian State Teams Age SC Championships
Ewan Bennett of Victoria (VIC) and Hugo Morris of New South Wales (NSW) conquered gold medals of 200m Individual Medley (IM) and 200m butterfly in Boys 16-17 years old category, on third day of 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships.
The meet competed on September 19, after its’ final session at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
Other than the above mentioned events, the session also involved Boys 200m back-stroke and 4*100m Medley Relay.
In the 200m IM, Bennett earned title of the event by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 03.50 seconds. He was trailed by Lennard Bremer of Western Australia (WA), who remained 1.28 seconds away from him and reached the podium for silver medal, by reporting
a time of 2 minutes and 04.78 seconds. The third position of the IM discipline was earned by Bennett’s team-mate, Jam Nettlefold, who remained 0.57 seconds slower than him and ended third with a timing of 2 minutes and 05.35 seconds.
In the meantime, Morris overwhelmed the efforts of his competitors in 200m butterfly, as he occupied the title in a new age group time of 1 minute and 59.71 seconds. He was trailed by Isaac Jones of VIC, who remained 1.34 seconds behind the champion and
clocked a time of 2 minutes and 01.05 seconds for silver medal. Jones was in a lead of 1.26 seconds over his team-member, Mitchell Pratt, who secured the podium for bronze medal with a timing of 2 minutes and 02.31 seconds.
Moments later, the crowd witnessed the laudable effort of Nicholas Reekie, who obtained the title of 200m back-stroke by reporting in a finest time of 1 minute and 59.32 seconds. He was in a lead of 1.43 seconds over his following swimmer, Regan Leong of
Queensland (QLD), who completed his swim in a time of 2 minutes and 00.75 seconds for silver medal. Leong’s team-mate, Robert Gerlach was the third finest swimmer of the event, as he won bronze medal in a time of 2 minutes and 00.76 seconds.
Subsequently, team A of QLD accomplished the title of 4*100m medley relay, by clocking a nice time of 3 minutes and 40.78 seconds. The silver medal of the event was claimed by NSW squad, which remained nearly four seconds behind and posted a time of 3 minutes
and 44.60 seconds. The third position of the discipline was achieved by team B of QLD, which produced a time of 3 minutes and 46.90 seconds for bronze medal.
Furthermore, the crowd appreciated the remarkable efforts of all participants, while the winners collected their medals after the session’s completion.
