Question:

Ex's stimulus check and child support arrears, what's the chances?

I get along great with my ex, but I don't have the heart to ask him this......he lost his job last October, and by the end of January he was a couple dollars shy of $500 in arrears.....and if he filed before the end of January, then child support would not touch his refund, well I never did get any money, not even from state. So presently he owes me over $1370, will I see his stimulus check? He has not remarried, so I know there will not be an injured spouse claim. I have a feeling when he filed he either used rapid refund or a RAC, so I am betting it is a paper check, and his last 2 digits are in the 60's. When I talked to child support a couple months ago, they said I "should" get it! I was hoping someone out there has gotten their back support arrears paid with the stimulus check, and answer my question. I am still waiting on my stimulus check, as my last 2 #'s are 48! Thanks for any help!!!

  1. Assuming that the debt was submitted to FMS by the local child support enforcement agency, yes you should receive the stimulus payment.  However it may take 6 months for it to get to you, as FMS must wait for a possible injured spouse claim unless he contacts them and certifies that he is not married.  FMS can't get marital status information from the IRS without his  explicit permission.

  2. Im in the same boat with you, Im still waiting on not only the stimulus check from child support but also his federal (he owes like 3800.00 in back pay)... I guess all we can do is play the waiting game!!! I hope its not 6 months before I get the stimulus payment, Ive been waiting since January 1st for his federal refund!!!
