Ex-Carolina Panthers QB Chris Weinke speaks of his belief seeing Peyton Manning back on field – NFL News
Chris Weinke, one of former counterparts of Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, who spent most time of his career as a QB at the Carolina Panthers, has spoken high of Manning’s return from a neck injury to be able to play professional football
again.
Weinke citied his example of a similar injury back in 1998, where regeneration of nerves in his throwing arm had become an issue, and in spite of that he not only managed to stage a comeback but played football as effectively as he had been doing so before
his injury.
"I lost everything, full atrophy in my throwing arm. The nerves that control my right arm were damaged," Weinke said. "My head was awkward and I got involved in a head-on collision. I had total nerve regeneration. So I had to in essence re-teach myself to
throw."
He said that he had talked to Peyton Manning earlier and the QB apparently wanted to return to play football again, adding that his guts tell him that he would be able to do so and would be as good if not better as he used to be prior to his neck surgery.
Weinke said:
"It comes down to Peyton and what he wants.  My gut tells me he wants to come back and play. My gut also tells me he's going to come back and be just as good if not better than he was prior to the surgery."
Weinke said the issue is not if the player will be able to recover and return to play professional football again, the issue is if he is able to regain his previous form and strength and he said that he believed the player would do so, proving his effectiveness
on the field.
Peyton has had as many as four procedures on the right side of his neck in past 19 months, and his doctors have now told him to restart doing workout, while regeneration of nerves is still in process and progress.
This has affected strength of his throwing arm and full regeneration of nerves will only determine power and throwing velocity of his triceps.
His doctors said that they do not have any timeline on regeneration of his nerves and have requested his team to be patient with the player on the matter.
In the absence of the timeline, there is increasing amount of suspicion around the chances of the QB’s recovery and returning to the game of football. This has also left his team in a fix on deciding whether they should take him back amid the lingering questions
on his health and fitness.
In spite of that Peyton Manning is lucky to have heard voices backing his recovery and return consistently, and his former counterpart Weinke is the latest amongst all who have posed confidence into his ability.
