Ex Champions head to this year’s AT&T National
This year’s AT&T National will once again be held at Bethesda, after it was shifted to Philadelphia for the last two years.
The tournament follows the stroke play format and is hosted by Tiger Woods. It benefits the Tiger Woods Foundation.
Tiger Woods Foundation, basically, works on the betterment of the health and welfare of children in America.
The list of players participating in this year’s event has been released and it features the champions of 2011 Nick Watney, 2010 Justin Rose, 2009 Tiger Woods and 2007 K.J. Choi.
Apart from the previous winners there are some other high profile players participating in the event as well.
The likes of Hunter Mahan, Louis Oosthuizen, who won the 2010 Open Championship, Adam Scott and Jim Furyk all will be there to compete for the $6.5 million.
The tournaments prize money was raised by $200,000. The event creates awareness and generates funds while honouring their Armed Forces.
“It is an amazing golf course,” stated Woods, at the press conference. “I know that I did not play it last year unfortunately, but hopefully we can make it a little more difficult so the scores would not be so low”.
Woods really honours the US armed forces, as his father was an Ex commando as well, who had served in Vietnam on couple of occasions.
The 2009 champion really appreciates the work that the Armed forces do because he has lived with his father and he knows how tough their routine and job is.
Tiger Woods will be raring to go at this year’s event, but to him, it is the overall idea of the tournament which appeals him, instead of playing golf at this very event.
This year Tiger Woods has had a satisfactory season. He has two PGA Tour wins, a second place finish and more importantly, he has played extremely well in the last two tournaments.
Being a previous winner of the tournament, Tiger knows the dynamics of the golf course and he will aim for the top position.
Last time when Tiger Woods won, in 2009, he shot 13-under and won by just 1 stroke.
