Ex-NBA player Mobley Cuttino looking to make a comeback - Basketball News
The former New York Knicks guard Cuttino Mobley has announced that he is ready to make a comeback in National Basketball Association (NBA). The veteran guard took retirement from the game, two and a half years back, when he was
diagnosed with heart problem.
Cuttino was forced to leave the game when Los Angeles Clippers traded him to the New York Knicks in November 2008. The Knicks took time to take him in because of Mobley’s medical fitness. During the course, N.Y found out that Cuttino
had a heart stipulation, but they still went with the trade.
The reason behind completing the trade was that the Knicks made the deal for hard salary cap, so they went with it despite of Mobley’s hypertrophic cardiomyopathy condition. However, just seven day after completing the trade New
York announced that his heart condition can end his career.
During an interview Mobley explained his case, saying, "It's a lot of different variations of HCM. Me playing 40 minutes a game for 11 years straight at a very high level.
"Mine is not serious at all. As you can see 11 years of playing and still playing three years later after they said you shouldn't play. You shouldn't run. You shouldn't do this. You shouldn't play that. A lot of different things
they said you shouldn't do."
Now the 35 year old wants to have another shy at the big stage. Mobley joined the league way back in 1998, when he was drafted as a 2nd overall pick by the Houston Rockets. He spent six years with the Rockets, from where
he went to Orlando Magic, but barely stayed there before he moving on to Sacramento Kings.
Mobley, who was ranked number three in three-point shooting back in 2004-05 season, signed a $42 million, multi-year deal with the Los Angeles Clippers. He had a decent tenure with the Clippers and led them to the 2006 NBA playoffs,
together with Sam Cassell and Elton Brand, before he was traded to the Knicks in 2008.
The 6 ft 4in believes that he has still a lot to offer,
"I'm not done. It depends on what the league says when the time comes. It's been a difficult process,”
Mobley expressed his dissatisfaction with the treatment meted out to him at the Madison square Garden. Although, in the beginning, he accepted the axe because of his condition, upon later pursuing the case, he discovered that he
was born with it.
Mobley wants to make up for the lost time and is rearing to make a comeback. However he knows that after remaining three years away from game, he will barely get a chance to play again in NBA. Cuttino is looking for an opportunity
in the Euro-league and although there is nothing substantial as yet, the player has indicated that the talks are taking place.
