Ex-NBA player Muggsy Bogues praises Dallas Mavericks’ owner Mark Cuban
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban being praised – that’s something new.
A man known for his over the top emotions and aggressive approach, especially whenever he gives a statement, is certainly not considered as one, who has many admirers. Over the course of the last few years, his unruly behaviour
has cost him on several occasions and despite of that Cuban remains very Cuban.
However, as far as his team employees and players are concerned, Cuban is a generous and caring person. That was what impressed Muggsy Bogues, the smallest player ever to play in the National Basketball Association. Bogues was
a 5 ft. 3 point guard, who last played for the Dallas Mavericks. In 2001, the Mavs brought in Bogues from Charlotte Bobcats for a three year stint, but after the death of his mother, Bogues bid adieu to the game.
What happened after was what Bogues told during a recent telephonic interview from his hometown Charlotte,
“I’ve never met Mr. Mark Cuban, but I tell people that I thank him more than life itself. I had three years left on my contract when my mom passed away, and I decided it was time to move on [from basketball]. I walked away from
the game with three years left on my contract. He (Cuban) could have easily just have bought me out of my contract, but he went on and honoured it and paid the three years out and never looked back.”
Bogues three year contract was worth around $3.6 million – not a small amount by any measure of imagination. To not even mention the deed, is what has made Bogues a fan of Cuban and he can’t thank Cuban enough for his generous
behaviour.
“I was never able to thank Cuban in person for that, but I do thank him.”
Bogues also expressed his jubilation at the successful journey of the Dallas Mavericks lat season, in which the Mavs took down the favourites Miami Heat to land the first ever NBA championship in their franchise history.
