Ex NBA star Allen Iverson desperate to make a comeback at the big stage - NBA Update
36 years old Allen Iverson, one of the finest players in the history of NBA, has been out of league for almost two years. In coming months though, we might be seeing him in action for one last time.
According to a source, Allen is trying extremely hard to get back in the NBA and he is also willing to play anywhere, if that gives him a chance to return to the big stage.
"Allen only wants to play if there's a possibility that it leads to the NBA," the person said, speaking on condition of anonymity. "That's the only way he would go to one of these lower leagues. He wants to get back to the NBA and leave the game on his terms."
Los Angeles D-League team Los Angeles Defenders have showed interest in acquiring him, but a deal has not been finalized yet. His agent also has been contacting the NBA teams for few months but no team has responded to him yet.
The agent is also in talks with Puerto Rican and Venezuelan Basketball teams, however unfortunately, both parties have failed to reach a deal there as well.
"Nothing is imminent," the source said. "The only thing that's imminent is Allen's desire to show people that he's still got a lot to offer on the basketball court, even if it's just helping young guys learn from the mistakes he made."
There’s more than just the love for the game that’s behind Iverson’s determination to get back in the NBA. The fact that he is having severe financial problems is also a big reason.
Such news also surfaced way back in 2010, however at that time, they were not this serious, but now they are.
Just few days ago, Georgia courts took $860,000 from his bank account, and transferred it to a jewellery shop owners account as Allen owed the shop the amount for a long time.
It is sad to hear that a player of his calibre, who was once a monster inside the court, is in such a tough situation.
Allen, in his 14 years NBA career, established himself as one of the best guards in the league. In 2008, he was ranked the 5th best shooting guard in the history of NBA by ESPN.
Hopefully, he will reach a deal with an NBA franchise soon enough, and get his one last chance in the game.
