Ex-Oklahoma state golfer to play in Canadian event
Jocelyn Alford, the Ex Oklahoma State University golfer, will play in 2012 Royale Cup Canadian Women's Amateur Championship alongside Team Alberta. The event is scheduled to begin from July 24.
Jocelyn Alford, an Alberta born player had a great amateur career. She has played golf at college level with some great results. She then went on to play on behalf of Oklahoma State University’s golf team.
A place on NCAA is a measure of golf skills a young golfer has. The number of slots is extremely limited and only the top players make it to the final teams. Alford started golf at a young age and became a successful player in her native British Columbia.
She played in Canada for a while and was instrumental in one of the best moments in British Columbia golf. She helped BC in 2010 NAIA and RCGA National Championships.
This was a great achievement for Alford who still takes pride in the role she played in helping her team and contributing to its success at the national championships.
Her latest triumph came when she appeared in Alberta Ladies Amateur 2012. The event was held at the prestigious Sturgeon Valley Golf and Country Club. The tournament featured top amateurs from all over Canada. Alford was on top of the game and finished the
last round with a score of 76.
She won by a narrow lead of just one stroke. This was no last minute performance. Alford had an early grip on the game with a five-shot lead at the start of the fourth round.
She started the tournament on a great note. With a score of 67 in the first round, she achieved two things. She set a course record and established the pecking order that she maintained till the very end.
The second round saw her performing equally well with a score of 72. This proved be very helpful as she entered the third round. Her third round performance was equally good and paved the way for her eventual win in the tournament. She shot a great 73 in
the third round.
She now looks forward to the Royale Cup Canadian Women's Amateur Championship, a tough competition that will add great value to her career and experience.
