I stopped smoking 7 months ago. I didn't use anything to stop. Now I am really craving a cigarette so much :( I know I don't want to smoke but when I see people smoking I know they're doing themselves damage but its at the point when my partner has been outside smoking I could just about l**k him when he come back in lol. Did this happen to anyone else? And does it go away? Thank you

  1. Quit smoking 16 years ago. I still sometimes crave, but it's more like a passing thought nowdays. It will get easier. Good luck with it!

  2. yes but try not to think of it, get up and clean or empty the fridge or spill something on the floor so that u have to clean it... do anything to take ur mind off it.  I wash the bath or cook.  Anything that will require full concentration and all ur energy.  Trust me it will go away

  3. All ex-smokers get cravings to some degree, and the craving gets less and less over time.

One day your partner will have to give up.  You can do some silent gloating then!

  4. I gave up smoking 14 years ago.  I don't remember exactly when I stopped craving a cigarette but I know I wasn't craving  8 months after giving up, because a 'friend' tried to persuade me to have a cigarette on a Christmas night out and I remember that I really did not even fancy one and had no inclination whatsoever to have one.  Just as well considering how unhelpful she was being.

My partner still smokes but he does not ever smoke around me.  He was supposed to have given up the same time I did but I found out he was smoking in secret.  He knows that i know now, but still doesn't smoke in front of me, probably because he knows I'll start nagging him to give up!

So please don't lose heart.  You have done really well to go this long and you MUSTN'T give in to your cravings.  They will pass, and hopefully soon.  I am so glad that I gave up.

By the way, the strange thing is that I often smoke in my dreams and I wake up in a panic thinking that I have really had a cigarette (and feeling very disappointed in myself) and then have a great feeling of relief when I realise it was just a dream.

  5. It gets easier over time. I quit 4 years ago and I get the odd pang but then I quickly realise if I bought a pack of 10 I'd smoke them straight away and be back on 40 a day in no time at all. I had a hard time quitting and I don't want to throw that away. Nicotine is a very addictive drug. You beat it. That's not a small achievement.

  6. quit smoking roughly 5yrs ago , no cravings at all , you either love it or you don't , I had to re- train my brain to hate smoke , as I did like smoking , such a double sword business really . but then i have saved enough money for a holiday .. used patches  though early in the morning  the smoke against the fresh air , made me want to smoke , but i got over this , by thinking the fresh air is better .

silly really but its all pschologal

  7. i just lit a fresh cigarette aaaaaahhhhhhhh the nicotieneeeee goodness

    **(exhales smoke)** loveley

    lol sorry ***** resist

  8. I stopped about seven years ago without anything and have never had a craving for it,the smell of it makes me feel sick and just the thought of kissing a smoker gives me a vision of sticking my tongue in an ashtray, well done to you don't waste it

  9. I haven't smoked a ciggie for  four years but if I did have one I would enjoy it but it will never happen, that's a closed chapter for me.

So no, it probably never goes away but it's easily beaten.

  10. I don't think the craving ever goes properly. In times of stress having a ciggie always seems like a good idea, unfortunately.

  11. I quit a year ago and only recently got over the cravings as I still live at home and my mum smokes and used to get bad cravings when drinking. now I can't drink for medical reasons I'm ok and the smell bugs the h**l out of me. So in answer to your question yes it goes away eventually so long as you don't give in to the temptations.

    GOOD LUCK

  12. gets less all the time  but possibly never disappears altogether,   I stooped 18 months ago after b 60 years, don'tt get much urge now  at all but didfor quite a while.   Its not so much the tobacco and nicotine   but the habit.

  13. No - but then again my hubbie gave up at the same time as me and we have now both turned into smoker haters!

  14. I gave up smoking for 15 years and stupidly allowed myself to be influenced by my then boyfriend and started again ! I had to have major heart surgery in November 2005 and stopped again before my operation and have not started again nor have I craved ciggies.

  15. i stopped 1 year ago last week and still like the smell but i just think of the money saved and the thought of having to stand outside places to smoke thats enough for me to be strong and forget it

  16. i still get cravens after 3months

  17. I have been given up 2 and a half years now.

Cravings are now few and far between but to be honest I still get them occasionally. For me now, its not the physical cravings, but more mental and social. Funnily enough I had a bad day of cravings last week but I cant remember the time before that.

This time giving up for me is different. I dont know why, but I just know I am never going to smoke again. If you are in that frame of mind it is a lot easier.

On a positive note, you have done really well to go cold turkey and really the hardest part is over with. Take a deep breath, eat some fruit, and take that really deep breath of fresh air with coughing your lungs up over the floor.

  18. Im exactly the same! haha

I stopped smoking about a year ago though and i still crave them, i feel like if someone leaves a cigarette and a lighter around, ill smoke it but nobody has yet, i would love for it to go, i was going to ask a similar question so thanks! lol..

I just have a big snif if someone near me is smoking.. i tried patches but they didnt work i just missed cigarettes

hopefully it will stop soon lol
