Ex-Tiger Adam Wilk shipped to Korea – MLB Detroit Tigers News
Former Detroit Tigers’ lefty pitcher Adam Wilk has been shipped to Korea where he will start for the local baseball league, reports a leading sports website. Wilk had a forgettable time on the mound last season as he struggled to pitch with control and
accuracy.
He was competing with Drew Smyly for the No.5 starting spot on Tigers’ pitching rotation but the left hander finished with a poor 0-3 record with a 6.66 ERA in eight appearances.
The Tigers made the official announcement on Wednesday after selling Wilk’s contract to a baseball team from Korean League. Wilk is hoping that he could learn from his mistakes and his one year of pitching in Korea will increase his chances of securing a
Major League Baseball contract in the future.
In an interview, he said he loved to be a part of the Tigers and he would not mind returning to Detroit. The Tigers have assured him that the door to them is not closed and there will be opportunities to come back.
"My time with the Tigers was great," Wilk said. "I would have never imagined making it to the major leagues in less than two years of professional baseball, and making my debut with Detroit in Comerica was and always will be one of my best memories ever.”
"I think this time is the right time for me to go over to Korea and pitch there this year," he added. "The Tigers' rotation is very strong at this point, and I feel that if I can pitch regularly in Korea I would have an opportunity to showcase myself off
for the right team in the following years."
Wilk is expected to pitch for the NC Dinos who are based in Changwon.
Wilk, who was the 11th round draft in June 2009, made five MLB appearances in 2011 but he failed to live up to the expectations. In his debut against the Boston Red Sox on May 26, 2011, he allowed just one run in three plus innings of relief.
It will be interesting to see if he can polish his skills in Korea to bring more consistency in his game play.
