My ex wants to see a therapist about some issues. The only problem is she doesn't have any insurance. Where can I find a therapist to send her to that she can afford without insurance? She can't afford like $300 an hour. Any ideas? She also doesn't want to go to a religious councilor because some of the issues are sexual.

  1. I've used students at the Local University who are studying counseling or other courses.  They are supervised by professors and do a good job in most cases.  The cost is also a fraction of what you a therapist would cost.

A religious counselor  might surprise you concerning sexual issues don't overlook this valuable resource.  Pastors normally don't charge for counseling either.

  2. What's the hang-up about talking to a religious counselor re: matters intimate?  If they're hanging out their shingle as a counselor, s*x is a an important topic in most folks lives.

Is she employed?  Many companies these days have an Employee Assistance Program that includes some number of free visits to a counselor/therapist.

Another option is a counselor who's a Licensed Social Worker.  Yeah, I know that sounds odd, but the licensing requirements and costs in some states are ridiculous so many people get a degree and a license to do Social Work, and that enables them to do counseling.

$300/hour is a bit much for counseling services.  Sounds like Beverly Hills psychiatrist fees to me.

  4. Call your local social services to get that information.  Some only charge 10.00 per visit.
