Ex-head coach Josh McDaniels meets St. Louis Rams
Josh McDaniels, ex-head coach for the Denver Broncos, went to St. Louis to meet with St. Louis Rams’ head coach Steve Spagnuolo on Saturday.
The possibility of McDaniels becoming the offensive coordinator for the Rams was discussed in the meeting.
McDaniels has drawn interest from various teams around the National Football League but the Rams are the second to act on their interest with their meeting on Saturday. He has already met with the Minnesota Vikings for a job while Darrell Bevell, offensive
coordinator, is still waiting to see what his future will be with the team.
Ever since Brett Favre retired and Tarvaris Jackson set to become an unrestricted free agent for the 2011 season, the Vikings are also looking for quarterbacks. Rookie quarterback, Joe Webb, is still on the roster.
Webb gave an incredible performance in their game against the Philadelphia Eagles, which they won, astounding fans and teams alike. They eradicated the Eagles’ chances at a first round bye in the playoffs which they could have really used, seeing as they
were eliminated in the first round with a loss to the Green Bay Packers.
The Rams’ job would be more attractive to McDaniels since their quarterback, Sam Bradford, has completed a rather successful season as a rookie after joining the NFL as the number one overall draft pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.
The Rams’ offensive coordinator position was available after Pat Shurmur decided to leave the team and become head coach for the Cleveland Browns.
If the Rams do hire McDaniels, Bradford would most likely be changing his offensive system to that of the New England Patriots, where McDaniels worked as an offensive coordinator.
While with the Pats, McDaniels set an NFL record with the team scoring 75 offensive touchdowns and 589 points in one season, although they went on to lose in the Super Bowl.
Matt Cassel and Tom Brady were two quarterbacks who McDaniels coached in New England. They both went on to become successful as did Kyle Orton after being coached by McDaniels in Denver.
