Question:

Ex-husband doesn't pay for his car and doesn't return it to his mother (the car is in her name)...?

A few years ago my mother-in-law let her son (my ex-husband) purchase the car in her name, so that he can get cheaper insurance in FL. He has been making payments all this time. Now he is in financial troubles. He stopped making payments and refuses to return the car to his mother, so that she can sell it. The creditor keeps on calling his mother (she is senior citizen and can't afford to make a $450 payment every month). What are the options in this case? Should she call the police and tell them that her son stole the vehicle? Should she go to court? Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

P.S. My ex is very pissed at his parents for supporting me on the divorce / child custody matter. That is why he is trying to make all our lives miserable.

  1. What she can do is ask the dealership company what she can do to since she can't pay it and that she purchased it for her son and he is no longer working.  What they might suggest that she do is bring it in and they would auction it off and she may have to pay any remaining balance or she can have it repossess she can sell it and pay the company what is owed to them.  Whatever you do he is going to be mad so let him.

  2. no she shouldnt lie to the police about the car..she let him get it through her name but she can sue him for the amount due on it...

let your ex and his parents deal with the car issue..you shouldnt b involved in that...

concentrate on your kids..let your soon to b ex inlaws deal with the car issue..

you should just worry about your relationship and make the divorce and custody issue as easy on the kids as possible...by getting involved with the car issue youre just creating more tension for the kids
