Exactly 100 pounds of cane sugar (dextrose) were accidentally discharged into a small stream saturated with oxygen from the air at 25 degrees. How many liters of this water could be contaminated to the extent of removing all the dissolved oxygen by biodegradation?

  1. what kinda question is this supposed to be???

  2. How big is the small stream? How many miles is it?  You will just have some sweet water for a while.

  3. 100% of the sugar would be contaminated.

  4. Huh?

    Split? You mean spilt?

What size stream? I mean what is the water volume and rate of movement in it?

What is contaminated? The sugar? Yes. The water? I don't think so. It is a natural biological product and 100% biodegradable.

  5. Answer:

There isn't enough information...you need to know how big of a volume the stream is and how fast you take a sample of the contaminated water. The longer you wait the less contaminated it will become due to it being dissolved.
