have a small french style cushion chair that has springs in the back which are bent or broken and it is killing my back to sit in now.

plus the chair has rugged upholstery..so was wondering if anyone has experience with the process really of "reupholstering" a chair, where to take to, or what is the process really?

is it less expensive than purchasing a new chair of the same quality?

why and how so?

thanks for your answers!

  1. It all depends where you go for your estimate. Upholsterers have different levels of prices. There are some that don't charge to tighten the springs but it sounds like it may have to be reconstructed which adds to the price for labor. Price to re-upholster is anywhere between $45 - $95 a yard which does not include the cost for fabric (taking into account the repeat of the fabric and it's fiber content). Welting is optional. If the chair has sentimental value to you then i would re-upholster it.

  2. £130 a day

    1 chair per day.

  3. you take it to an upholstery shop. It usually cost about as much as a chair..Unless the chair is really special it is better to buy one..or try and repair it yourself.
