He's counting on his supporters being too gaga over him to realize it.

MOst of them know little about business and manufacturing.

1 -- the technology isn't ready and is several years off.  Once it's developed, it has to be made economical enough to get to market so people can afford it.  Right now, such vehicles cost at least 1/3 more than conventional vehicles.

2 -- once the technology is ready and economical, it takes at least 3 years to build and tool up a new production line for an automobile.

3 -- there are 240 million private vehicles in the US.  It takes 9 1/2 years now to replace 1/2 of those vehicles.  At that rate, it will take close to 20 years to replace the vehicles in the US.

That means about 30 YEARS.

This does NOT include municipal vehicles like police cars, ambulances, fire engines, garbage trucks, etc.  which will cost taxpayers an enormous amount of money.

Remember that that only 40% of US petroleum usage is for gasoline.

The rest is used for pharmaceuticals, plastics, agriculture and manufacturing, lubricants, aviation and military, construction, plumbing, wiring, coatings, paints and solvents, road paving, etc.

Inflating our tires isn't going to help.

2)It is totally possible if stubborn people like yourself would just open your mind to maybe, oh I don't know... saving the earth, saving the economy... you get the idea.

1-We've had the technology for several years now.  Do your research.  We've just been too stingy to spend anything on using it.  We've developed it, just not used it.

As for the part that is used for all that other stuff... that isn't all 60%.  You really need to stop taking everything Mccain (or Obama, for that matter) says seriously.  That stuff doesn't cause greenhouse gasses and is a small enough percent that drilling really isn't going to hurt us if we make enough changes with hybrids and such.

You are seriously misunderstanding him.  That is not the plan.  It will be a transition over many years.  He also never said it will not cost us a dime.  I think you need to re-read his energy plan.

You don't need to buy a new one.  At least not now, but maybe once your vehicle is no longer in good running condition, then you can get a new one.  There are still going to be gas vehicles.  There will be a transition.  This is not a simple fix.  But John McCain is trying to feed us Americans that it is.  He is clueless!
