Exactly how long is a 5k Cross country meet?

like is it 2 football fields length? or shorter or longer? thanks in advance!

5 kilometers=5000 meters=3.11 miles

If I recall correctly, it's something like 5000 meters, but I could be completely wrong.

Someone once told me it the same as 16404 feet, which is pretty far.  So I walked it off and figured it was about 5468 yards, or 54 1/2 football fields in length, but that seems impossible.

Obviously it should be 5000m, however, often organisers do not have the equipment to accurately measure the distance - I use a Garmin GPS watch to measure my runs.

Also you mention football fields.  If this is just to get an idea about distances than the other answers should assist you there; however, if you are thinking of using them for training I would suggest alternate locations because Cross Country is normally not a simple flat run - it can be on grass, mud, creeks, up and down hills, etc.

a 5k race is much longer than two foot ball fields.  the length of two football ball fields is 200m and a 5k race is 5000 meters.
