I'm 17 and planning on doing a study abroad program a year from now, in my last year of high school (I'm a junior right now). Besides a passport, what other documentation do I need? Thanks!

  1. You are getting the stuff pertaining to college because the people are just using a generic answer they have developed to get the points.

To answer your questions. FIRST, you need to apply SOON if you are going to go next year. Applications are closing rapidly and if you are looking for scholarships, many deadlines have already passed.

In addition to your passport, you will also need a visa. The process of getting that, and exactly what type of visa you will need, will depend upon the country to which you travel. For example, the procedure is different for Germany and Brasil.

Something else to think about are vaccinations. You will need different ones for Europe and South America. Students tend to forget that one until the last minute!

You may also need certified copies of your high school transcripts for the application process (if you have not already done that). Most organizations attach your transcripts to the application that is sent to the country of your choice and it is used in placement.

Once you begin your exchange it is a good idea to take a CERTIFIED copy of both your passport and birth certificate with you and keep them in a safe place -- separate from your passport. Do remember, an American passport is very valuable and a prime target for theft! Keep it safe while on your exchange. Your organization should issue you an ID card so you should not have to carry your passport unless you leave the country (check with local law to be sure though).

    Good luck and have fun!

  2. Like the other person said passport, language test, and documents depend upon the country u are applying from and applying to. Check the source for complete information.

  3. Different colleges require different documents and if you're going to european countries or great britian then you'll need to give IELTS test. And definately your passing certificates lollll.
