Nothing, because it is not the best and most spectacular game in the world. It is not spectacular at all, and anybody who thinks it is clearly has never been a part of any other sport.

the passion, the expectation - the unknown. in any good game ( not Carlton vs the dockers) but a good game - anything can happen. I just cannot describe the feeling of being there in my colours amongst 30,000+ people (subiaco is small, but we're upgrading) and just cheering them on and especially at the beginning when my team song comes on and Freo run on to the field..my god i just get goose bumps every time.. forget the bills and the troubles of daily life - you are watching the game! nothing else matters at that point in time!

Being a Canadian who lived in Australia for a year (in Brisbane - go the Lions!).  I went to several AFL games at the Gabba (Brisbane Cricket Grounds).

I gotta say that Aussie Rules is a great sport to both watch and play for a few reasons.  First it isn't very stop and go.  The action is fairly constant (unlike pro football in the US), it is a very physical game, and its not too hard to follow.  Once you get to know the basic rules, it's not hard to understand whats going on.

Couple that with some of the feats of athleticism that go on (like spekkies and stuff like that) all the leaping, precision kicking, the hits and tackles, etc. that make the game pretty thrilling to watch.

BUT - all of that pales in comparison to hockey, the fastest game on Earth.  NOTHING beats watching/playing that, the sportsman's sport.
