Take milk for example, I think the date on it is the day the store has to sell it by, rather than the date it goes bad.

  1. Parishable dairy products expire when they leave the church (or the county in Louisiana).

  2. right after you puke it up.

  3. usuallya week at most

  4. well, i take the date of sell by as the expiration date because that's the only date i can find on milk

expiration dates are usually on the back

  5. It wont hurt you to drink it, Its just not what you will be used to..Sour Cream is exactly what the name implies. Cream that is aged (past what any expiration date on milk or cream would be) ...and some cheeses are basically mold. (blue cheese, limburger...etc..  if its outdated mix it with egges for French toast, cheese omelets it actually makes these dishes taste better.

  6. The date on most products are the dates the product should be sold, not necessarily the date that it should be eaten by or the date it will go "bad"   If you bought milk, cheese, meat, or toher perishable products before the package date and took them home and froze them they would last longer than the date on the box and still be good

  7. You are correct in thinking that the perishable date is the date which is the last day that the store can sell it (legally).  Most dairy products are good after the expiration date, but to be on the safe side, you should check them carefully after that date.  Dairy products actually perish when they go bad, sour or mold.  There is no way to actually set a date because it depends on so many factors, like how carefully they are stored.  The expiration date is set by law to protect the consumer.
