Exactly who is the "Elitist" and why does it really matter?

Jonathan Sidney McCain III, son and grandson of admirals, attended Annapolis, became a US Senator, married to one of the wealthiest women in America...

or...

Barrack Hussein Obama, son of middle class parents, attended Harvard School of Law, became a US Senator, married to a woman he fell in love with while working for one of the largest law firms in Chicago.

I know there are more details to cover for both...but there has been an obsession by some in calling Obama the elitist, when in fact he is the epitome of the American Dream, and John McCain is the one who grew up in a life of privilege.

But what does that matter?

  1. McCain is the elitist and it matters because this country was built off the backs of the poor and middle classes. If we continue to value corporations over citizens, we will soon have only rich and poor. McCain doesn't have a clue about the economy or how US citizens are suffering.

Simply having money doesn't make you an elitist. Thinking everyone else lives just as well as you do is being an elitist. Not having a clue as to how the other half lives is being an elitist.

  2. It doesn't matter because this whole election is just a charade.

  3. Michelle Obama has just as much money as Cindy McCain.  Do you forget that her father and grandfather are millionaires many times over?  And Barack's family wasn't that bad off when he was growing up.  There was no pulling himself up by the bootstraps to attain the American Dream.

  4. I don't much care how they grew up.  I care about what they want to do with the advantages they have been given.

Most Americans will never be rich.  McCain's policies, like Bush's, are all about helping the rich, who need it least.  Obama wants to help working class and poor Americans.  He gets my support.

  5. This matters because only person who knows about the majority Americans and has been through their every days conditions is Obama. He is in touch of reality. McCain is just living in his dream world.

  6. You are absolutely right.  It has nothing to do with the election! I could care less how many houses McCain has, or if he even knows how many he has or not! I mean, do these people know how much change they have in their pockets?

  7. i dont understand it either. when people attack elitists, what i hear is "I'd rather have a mediocre, community college president." doesn't make sense to me.

  8. Anyone who has the audacity to run for the highest office in the land is automatically elitist.

I think that anyone would make a big deal out of someone being an 'elitist' should be unable to run for the White House.

  9. Yeah, that's not TOO slanted of a run down.

But, to answer your question, the elitism accusations come from seeing a person worth millions talking about how badly "broken" America is.  His equally rich wife, also a beneficiary of the American dream, prattling on about how she has not been proud of her country, and that it is a downright "mean country".

Who chooses to align himself with people who are domestic terrorists and have no problem with declaring how they hate the country, without bothering to leave school.

It matters because these are the people who will be making decisions about your tax dollars.  To a person who actually works for a living, and has no parents to sponge off of, every extra dollar counts.   The true working person is none too happy to see their hard earned dollars going into someone else's pocket.

  10. Being an elitist has nothing to do with with how much money one has or how one grew up. It has everything to do with a state of mind. The money part does not matter. The elitist state of mind does. It's a way of thinking that puts one's own opinions over and above others' opinions because one believes he or she is better or more valued than another.
