Great Britain was imperialistic for centuries. started in 17-18 centuries, all teh way into the late 1940s! The age of imperialism was at it's  height in the 19th century, with even the USA taking some countries over (philippines, guam, puerto rico etc.)

First, manifest destiny, then when the Pacific Ocean stopped that, expansion to S. America, Far East, and the rest of the world, continuing to and including King W's takeover of Iraq.
