  2. Homonyms are words that sound the same, but have different meanings. Depending on who you ask, homonyms may also be spelled the same, or they may be spelled differently. Some people say that words that sound the same but are spelled differently are homographs. Personally, I consider them all to be homonyms. For example:

    bank - bank - bank (where you put your money, tipping sideways in a plane, and the edge of a body of water)

    red - read

    reed - read

    brake - break

    sea - see

    plane - plain
