Excel experts ??? how to on a spreadsheet..?

Question

my boss wants me to make links on a excel spreadsheet for example

i might type black dogs 22 in a cell on top and he wants it so if you click on the the cell that says "black dogs 22" there is a way for it to take him directly to cell a22 or what ever it may be... anyone understand ? thankful for any help

On Excel's standard toolbar is the "Insert Hyperlink" icon which will allow you to navigate to the desired cell whenever the link is clicked.

When you click this icon, the dialog box will permit you to select various options for creating the hyperlink, so in your case, you may want:

Link To: Place in this Document

Text to Display: Black Dog 22

Type the Cell Reference: A22

Click OK, and test it.

not sure I really understand this :-)   So you've got a bunch of cells that you want to name things like "black dog 22", etc.  Then you want to be able to jump to those locations.  Kind of like creating a link in webpage so that when you click on the cell (link) it takes you to the cell it's refering to.  A couple of options you do use

First method:

you'd have to go around and assign a "name" to all the locations you want to reference.  For example select cell A22, go to Insert > Name and assign the name "blackdogs22" (it won't accept spaces) to cell A22.  

Now next to your formula bar you'll notice a cell reference of where you are (A1, A2, etc).  You can drop this box down and select blackdogs22 and it'll take you to that cell (a22)

Second option

in some cell on top (let's say A1), press CTRL-K.  This brings up the Hyperlink option.  Click the "Bookmark" option and either enter a cell reference (say as A22) or if you've named the ranges as instructed above, you can use that instead of A22 (enter blackdogs22).  After you press OK you see "blackdogs22" in A1 with a blue underline (a link).  Now you click the link and it jumps you over to A22.

depending on why your boss wants this and how many different cells he wants to name like blackdogs22, blackdogs23, etc. this could get pretty tedious :-)
