Excelebration: The runner-up of Queen Anne Stakes
Accidently and unluckily, Excelebration lost each of his last two races from the 11-victory unbeaten trainee of Sir Henry Cecil, Frankel, but he proved his class and calibre well by finishing as a runner-up in the high-profile Queen Anne Stakes (British
Champions Series) (Group 1) during the gorgeous Royal Ascot event.
On June 19, 2012, the A. P. O’Brien trained bay colt delivered an outstanding performance and finished second after a tough battle against Frankel who was the 1-10 favourite for that event. He ran under the trainer’s son J. P. O’Brien.
Excelebration met the same fate in Jlt Lockinge Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) on May 19. That race was held at Newbury. In the six-runner event as well, the talented son of Exceed And Excel out of Sun Shower finished second with Frankel being
the winner.
On April 22, the Owenstown Stud bred colt marvellously grabbed a grand victory in the Big Bad Bob Gladness Stakes (Group 3) at Curragh racecourse. He was 2-7 favourite for that race.
During August-September 2011, the 12-race veteran colt elegantly bagged a couple of consecutive triumphs while being the hot favourite runner.
Debuting in May 2010, the Irish sprinter nicely won two high-stakes races in a row during June-July of the same year. As a whole, he has 6 tremendous triumphs to his name.
Now, Excelebration is preparing to test his credentials in the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) that will be held at York on August 24. His entry is also due in the Betfair Celebration Mile (Group 2) that will take place at
Goodwood on August 25.
The brilliant colt has to pick one of these two events. The trainer will decide what is more suitable for his pupil. He has never run any race on either of Goodwood and York so far.
Following the Royal Ascot festival, O’Brien has administered some useful and effective training techniques on Excelebration in a bid to improve his stamina and polish his skills.
Thus, the widespread fans of the colt are expecting a big show from him in any of the coming contests he opts to participate.
