Excelebration again on a hat-trick
The month of October brought plenty of happiness for Excelebration, who registered his second consecutive win a few days ago. Aidan O’Brien’s charge has been doing a splendid job since the start of this season.
Winning three of the previous five races shows how good rhythm he is currently in. The only two defeats this season came at the hands of the unbeaten star, Frankel. It was quite disappointing for Excelebration’s camp, but those couple of beatings really
helped him learn a good lesson.
Owned by Derrick Smith & Mrs John Magnier & Michael Tabor, the bay colt put his journey back on the winning ways, when sent at Deauville in August. Under Christophe Soumillon, he remained prominent throughout, and eventually finished on top of the chart
by one and a quarter lengths in the Group 1, Prix du Haras de Fresnay-le-Buffard - Jacques le Marois.
The son of Exceed And Excel demonstrated an even better show on his return to Great Britain. The spectators at Royal Ascot saw him beating Cityscape by three lengths in the Group 1, Queen Elizabeth II Stakes Sponsored By Qipco (British Champions Mile) on
October 20th.
In the hands of Joseph O’Brien, the 10-11 favourite held up behind the leaders. He kept himself prominent in the middle stages, but could never reach the front row. His hard work paid off just inside the final furlong, when he quickened to take lead.
Making no mistake afterwards, Excelebration continued to run well until the finishing line. The winning trainer said after the race: "We're delighted. His work's been brilliant and he's getting heavier all the time. He's a lot of speed and class and Joseph
was very confident. The lads have done a great job with him at home."
The rider added: "He's a great horse and is improving with racing and age. He's exceptional and the ground makes no difference to him."
Being on a hat-trick is not a thing that Excelebration is experiencing for the first time. The Owenstown Stud-bred has gone through this situation twice early in the career, failing to strike hat-trick on both occasions.
The connections are yet to decide on his future outing. But wherever it will be, Excelebration has a great opportunity to register his name among the hat-trick scorers. Good luck to him.
