Excessive panting and urination?

I just got my 10 week old Pomeranian puppy. Since we got home, he would not stop panting and he urinated about 5 times within the hour. His appetite and water intake is normal and he won’t stop running after my brother. He’s playful but, wont stop running.

  1. How long has he been panting like this?  Did you just get him today? if so he may just be excited.  He also may be nervous if you just got him and he is going crazy trying to learn his new environment.  Try petting him and talking to him to calm him down.  If he is super excited then that may be the reason also that he is going pee alot.

  2. heavy panting can also be a sign of pain. Maybe a quick trip to the vet is in order. Also if he had a UTI frequent urination would be normal as would the panting from pain. But he is just a 10 week old puppy so he would go a lot anyway.

  3. Your home may be warmer than his old home.  Also, Tiny dog = tiny bladder.  He is going to have to go outside alot.

Plus, he may have worked himself into a "tizzy".  He's so worked up and hyper by all the new stimuli that he is unable to calm himself down.  Going to a new home has to be extremely stimulating.

Want to stop him from running?   Put him in his crate - ignore him - he'll be asleep in 15 minutes.

I know that the family is really excited getting a new dog - but he is just a baby and needs his quiet time/naps to stay happy and healthy.

  4. its a puppy thats what they do.

Just be glad it nots your grandma panting and urinating chasing your brother......Then you'd have real problems.

    good luck

  5. He's 10 weeks old, what do you expect?

He's going to be panting excessively from all that running, and he's only 10 weeks old.  He cannot hold it more than two hours at a time now, and since he's being active it'll go through his body much more quickly.
